My Dilemma Between my TL and a G35 Coupe
I know I have asked opinions about a volvo s60 r and my acura before, and I have changed my mind numerous times on the specific wheels I was going to purchase for my 04 wdp/5at TL, from volk to ronjons, to dpe's and back, but it looks like I have very huge decision to make very quickly about what car I will have in the near future.
I purchased the 04 TL in december of 03 with my parents, I purchased half, they the other half. I went to college and left it home, my mother loves it, she has put over 34,000 miles on it she loves it so much. Its an automatic, something I had to compromise on when we purchased the car, I dont mind manual, and I think automatic has more of a place in the TL than a 6 speed.
My original plan, was to continue working this summer, right now I work at a tennis club giving lessons, and I am a distrubutor of LG plasma, LCD, CRT TV's, and LCOS televisions, (I can pretty much get you anything LG makes at wholesale if your interested btw). And pay the rest of the TL off, I need $7500 more, which I will easily make by the end of the summer if I continue to sell LG products in the amount I am right now.
The reason I'm considering this G35 coupe now, is that I spoke with my father, and he thinks It would be best to have my mom keep the acura, since she has put so many miles on it, and he knows my intentions to customize whatever I drive. He has offered to take my share in the acura, and transfer it into anything else I would like to purchase. So that means I have around $26k to spend, without the additional money I make this summer giving lessons and selling TV's. That's the perfect amount for a 2003 G35 Sport Coupe 6MT w/ Brembo brakes and the premium package, I can get them in Southern California used for around $25k-$27k depending on miles.
I'm asking the advice of this forum on what they think about keeping the acura, and continuing to mod it, or just to jump onto a used G35 coupe. To give you an idea of where I plan to go with these vehicles as far as modifcations.. here it is....

It would take some time to finish each car, and I was wondering what you guys would do if its your decision? I need to decide before the end of this month, in order to take advantage of the deal with my father, as he wants to know weather or not he will need to purchase a new vehicle for my mother. Thanks for reading all this, and putting up with my constant indecisive nature.

If I were your age again (I can't even remember back that far) I would give up the TL to your mom and get the G. The G is a nice car; if it had been quieter and had a nicer interior I would have one now. Be sure to inspect it carefully and get a Carfax report.

Since you dont need the FWD, go with the coupe, manual of course. Interior is pretty bad compared to the TL, but its a nice car. More power, better handling, but different looks. Still recomend you go gray or black.

To Lokius, I'd give up the TL to your mom. She seems to love it, and by doing this it will put BOTH you and your parents in a better financial position than if anyone sold the vehicles. Your dad is basicially giving you 0% depreciation! That's a deal if you ask me. Go for it. Both you and your mom will end up better in the end.

yeah man, why hook up the TL if its auto?? to me, a TL doesn't need to be performance modified. its a pimp car. get the manual g35. pretty car. wished i would've gotten it instead of a TL. i'm 23 and i miss the sportiness. wished this thread was out before i bought my tl a month ago.

Bot cars are not slow, but they are not fast either. They are respectable in power, but aren't going to be 11 sec cars. I think you need to figure out what you want in a car. As eddidy said, the g35 is more sporty and the tl is more luxourious, but if you plan on modding a bunch, look at an evo, wrx or sti. I'll tell you what, though. I came from a 330awhp wrx with 20k in mods, and though it was fun, it was not worth all that money I put into it.

Just something to keep in mind................uh......in case you have to move something.......yea, yea move something, thats the reason.

I long for a G35c MT each time I see one. You might want to compare insurance premiums to help you decide. That's a lot of money for a set of wheels, expecially when you factor in all the mods. Step back for a minute and think about buying something else for less and saving the extra $$$ for a rainy day or a down payment on a house\condo. Don't think you could go wrong with any of the decisions - TL, G35, saving $$$. BTW, is there a way to get some LG appliances through you for delivery in Washington state?

I concur. The g35 was too small for me to fit in comfortably. Further, I just don't think the interior is anywhere near as nice as the TL's.

I know some of you are saying why not get an evo or an sti, those are great cars, I just don't like the style of them as much as the g35c or the TL, and I would have to buy one used, and those are not cars that you want to buy in southern cali used, because they are owned for pure driving excitement, which doesnt mean they were taken easy on. Right now I'm really leaning towards the g coupe, just because I know if i spend enough time searching, I can find the right one, well taken care of, with low miles, it's just going to take some time.
I dont think either car is slow, compared to a 500whp evo perhaps, but all around package, they both are the best of the best for their value. As far as the modifcations, I have a meeting with Steve Stillen of Stillen Racing in Costa Mesa regarding some plasma televisions, so I may be able to work a deal for all those aftermarket parts down the road

The G35 Coupe is a very nice car and I am sure you will find the right one for you. I would have most likely bought a RWD if it wasn't for Boston winters. If I were in CA, I would still be driving my roadster.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Things i have considered..
2nd gen. Acura CL-Type S mt Black or Red
'97-'00 Lexus SC400 Black or Red
'91-97 Bmw 8 Series (always liked these for some reason) in Black
Maybe '97-'99 Bmw 745i in Black
What do you guys think?
G35 Coupe liked it till the test drive, my head was too close to the ceiling and theres no head rest support for me, just in case of whiplash.

traitor!, kidding. The G is very attractive and has alot of potential, but i feel like the TL is a more pimp car, while the G is a more sporty car. G def gets me to turn my head, but I see alot of them locally, and a Modded TL is alot more rare than a modded G. If only Acura would make a Coupe, then this topic would be a whole different ballgame. good luck with your decision, both cars are nice.

oman, the TL and the G coupe are two completely different cars. Go with the G if u want to race ppyl around and show off ur car. BUt then again the TL aspec is a sweet ride and that is what i chose bc i liked the look of it better and i love the big roomy feel on the TL. The G is not even that loud. So if i wanted to go that way, i wouldve gotten the 350z. Get the 35th or the track model. Forget the G. Its a heavy pig. At your age, the 350z is much more attractive.

I'm about 6 ' 1" and I'm going to go do some test driving of the new g35 coupe 6mt this week, as well as drive some of the older 03 6mt's they have, and that will be the final step towards the decision. I can't decide without a driving test

if uwant a chick pick up car then get a bmw 33ci or a honda s2k. But if u want the guys to know that u have a smoking hot car then get a STI or a 350z. I actually hate their stock looks but with a some mods, then can look pretty nice.

The G35 is an awesome sports car, but the interior is ghetto compared to the TL. I would say that if the G coupe had an interior like the TL, I'd be showing you pics of the G in my driveway right now. But I do value a stylish, luxurious interior, and the G disappoints.

I dont need to impress anyone, I'm buying the car for me, for a good balance between safety, value and performance. The Evo and STI arent practical for me, since the insurance is to much for me to afford, and the g35 coupe is just barely more than the tl. And the styling on both those cars is just horrendous, If you saw a picture of me, you would know I dont belong in an STI or EVO, as much as I love them. Everything I like to do to my cars is tasteful, and I would definently continue that with the G35.
THe interior is lacking without a doubt compared to the TL, and I would never put a screen in, or mess around with a system after owning the TL, stock audio set-ups can be done right, and the bose audio on the g35 should be enough for me. I have great speaker set-ups in my room and home theater. The thing about the interior, is that compared to the 350z or the s2k, I think the g35 has a great interior, compared to the TL, it doesnt

The g35 interior isnt much better than the 350z. Remember, these cars are very small so there isnt much room to make the car look fancy on the inside. Have u seen M3s? They look like crap on the inside too. I like the g35 look better than the 350z. But i would put the s2k on the top in terms of looks. Im gonna say this again, the TL and the g35c are two completely diff cars. THe TL dosnt drive nearly as well as the g35. But the interior and the space is def something to think about and those things eventually led me to get the TL. GL

I sold my 04 G35 coupe. It was pearl white with aero kit, navi, brembo, all the works. It was a 6spd so my wife could not drive it. I bought an 05 tl apec AT. Owning both cars I can tell you that the G35 might not have such a nice interior BUT it definitely is the better car. RWD, torque and great looks. Every single person I know liked the G better than the TL I have now. Don't get me wrong the TL is great, but I miss the G35 soooooo much. It is fast, it is a real head turner and the exhaust is sweet. If you want performance and looks then go G35. If you want ok looks and sacrafice performance then go TL. I wouldnt even compare these two cars but since I have owned both I figured I would let you know what I thought. You are into mods so you will not be dissapointed with the g35 coupe.
