Started driving from a stop light at felt a shadow flying towards me from the left ... next thing BANG !!!! all i heard was an explosion ... a little pain on the shoulder and smoke in the whole car. Realized i had been T-boned.... but was still in a state of shock. After a couple of seconds passed, i started patting on my whole body in dis-belief checking for any wounds or bleeding from the left side . Thank God nothing was felt but i was shivering ... tried opening the door was stuck... Car became dark as side air bads were deployed .... Next thing I checked was felt my face for any scars or burns (as im getting married in 2 weeks) from the air bags .. surprisingly nothing ....

Saw a lady and a guy peeking in through the front ... told them I was Ok. Got out the other side noticed was still shivering ... might be coz of shock ... saw the other guy from the Escalade come up to me... Asked me if everything was ok ... and then a whole bunch of drama which i will update you guys tomorrow as I am too tired to type.

Still lost at the moment and wondering if my baby is gonna be Ok. It's our anniversary on the 4th of November and that's also when I'm supposed to fly out for my wedding .... Huge shock right now ... Truly don't want her to be totaled .... i love her even more now after she saved my life today ....

I am sorry bro... Definitely ouch, but greatest thing is that you are S A F E! Hope it'll all be okay man, and congratulations on the wedding.

And I am really glad our car can handle some beating.

Stay safe.

Damn dude! Glad to hear that you're alright. The TL is a VERY safe car! I'm sure the most expensive things to replace in the car are probably the air bags. I'm sure a good body shop will put her back together good as new with new fender and door. A pillar would probably have to be pulled out.

Hope the other guy had gotten cited for broad siding you.

Bro, as long as your okay, I would still suggest going to get a check up just in case. Your car did its job in keeping its occupant SAFE.

Let insurance take car of the car repairs, thats what its for. It might be salvaged, more than totaled but can't tell til your car is inspected for any frame damage, if any.

Im glad your reaction was I love my TL more now that it has saved my life. Unfortunately, im materialistic, and i think i would react more like AHHHHHH My car!!!!!!! NOOOO!!!!!!!. This is a bad dream. No! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!. And then the thought of a white Honda CR-Z would cross my mind.

And once again the TL lives up to its safety creds The damage doesn't look too bad and should be repairable. Good luck with the process and as someone said, get checked out by a doctor

Good to see you're Ok Mani, but damn the TL is solid...that Escalade looks like it took the worst of it (not including what the airbags did to your interior)...By drama I'm guessing the other driver tried blaming you??? In any case I'm in for the update when you get a chance. Congrats and good luck on the upcoming nuptials

Dang, WDP Type s, its a sad day.

However, at least the driver that hit you should be able to "clean" this up quickly.

Come on, they are cleaners!

Good luck with the upcoming weeks. Itll be stressful, but just try to relax and enjoy the fact that you will still be able to sleep at night with your lady by your side. The TL saved you from having to watch her from above...

Usually if the air-bags deploy the car is totaled. Most shops don't want the liability associated with replacing airbags which really drives the cost up. At least this is what I've been told...

Good luck. Glad you're all right.

Glad you are ok. So if I'm reading this right, you got hit, had time to check yourself, and try and open the door before the air bags deployed. That sounds like a lot of time went in terms of deployment of the air bag.

Thanks all of you for the well wishes and concerns. I was at a stop light at red and when the light turned green I moved on. The guy was coming from my left side going towards my right. But because he was coming from under a freeway bridge and it was dark I didn't see him. I did however feel a shadow kind of thing something dark aiming towards me (which could be my 6th sense). So my reflex made me bend towards the passenger side. Next thing i heard was a loud screeches and a BANG explosion. The car turns all dark and smokey (dust)
For the first minute or two, I thought i was lost or something had no clue then i realized I had been hit. Felt my feets trembling which did not give me a good feeling. Immediately then I went in to panic mode and started patting my whole body on the left side to check for bleeding or numbness. Yes I was scared to death as just last month 2 of my friends got shot working at a fastfood chain and one of em has been left paralyzed for life waist below at only 31 years old of age. The whole crime ran in the back of my head and I guess I just lost it.

After feeling my self, I noticed the car still ON but engine not running... I couldnt figure out if the smoke was from the airbags or a fire. So tried getting out the driver door... was jammed ... jumped on the other side and got out of the passenger side door.

Got out and found the Escalade driver walking towards me .... asked if I was ok and then immediately wanted to exchange insurance info. Im like hold on dude relax... let the cops come here ... He admitted right away that it was his fault but insisted he ran a yellow and not a RED. Anyway I had another car next to me but they left the scene as basically what selfish a****holes do here in Miami....

Anyway a Miami PD Swat truck was passing by ... stopped over and asked if i was ok and told me to call 911. They were enroute an assignment I guess. Called 911 and Public aide lady shows up after 15 mins.
During this time the other guy had already called his insurance which is also the same as mine GEICO ... explained the whole situation admiting his fault...

Public aide lady shows up moves both cars to the side and starts paperwork ... Listens to the other guys story first ... clearly admits that its his fault but same thing that he passed on a YELLOW .... Lady looks at him like NO way is my light gonna be GREEN till your light turns red but the dude doesnt stop.... She says well Ill have to give u a ticket for running a RED... She asks for license and registration and insurance.. I give all my stuff .... dude hands her reg. insurance and a STATE ID shes like i need a DL. and he tells her he forgot it at home ....

Lady goes and sits in car ... and the dude just starts walking and jumping here and there ....couldnt stand still.... During this time he gives me a business card with a claim number on it .... from Geico. I thank him and in the back of my head I realize may be this could be a scam who knows it could be his friend on the other line and I could be being played.... I call GEICO from my phone confirm the claim no. and thanks God everything was OK. I tell the GEICO agent I want you to confirm eveytying about this policy if the guys listed the vehicles listed and insurance is current... I dont want to deal with any B.S. later on .... heard a lot of ugly stories here in MIA not to forget $50 fake insurance cards.......

Rep tells me insurance is under wifes name ... escalade is also .... the guys is the ladies husband. Any way i was still on the phone when i see 2 cop cars show up with lights n on n stuff.... They surround the guy and interogate him .... Thats when i realise the guy was driving with no license cos it was SUSPENDED Im like OK ... this changes everything .... I tell everything to the GEICO agent on the phone and inform him that the guy might get arrested ..... and i also gave them a recorded statement of everytyhing ... By this time it has been almost 2 hrs of us standing there .... All of a sudden, I hear sirens wailing and an ambulance shows up .... The guy realises he is about to be arrested so he says he needs an ambulance as he is having pain .... and he sits on the floor and makes all this noise and drama .... Even the ER guys were smiling at this ,.,,,, anyway they do a basic check up everythig is fine but the guy still insists on going to Emergency .... Sigh .....

Cop tell him that he is following him to the hospital and he will be arrested after he gets released ....

Im like ... im the one who was hit hard ... I had pain which went away ... and I didnt want to create a whole drama .... and now this is what i have to deal with ... Anyway leaving everything in God's hand I just ask the cop to drop me to work and Ill move on with insurance going forward....

I didnt have pain in the day time but in the evening i started feeling pain in the shoulder.... by night it was on the my upper arm and back part of my left shoulder ... This morning it was even more ... I feel like I have been punched hard a number of times ..... So planning to go to a physician as soon as I get off work today ... Also contacting a lawyer as I want everything to go through the other guys insurance .... my deductible on my insurance for medicals is a $1000.... so lets see how it goes on ....

The car is not at the tow yard any more but have been calling a number of dealers and hasnt been located yet ... waiting for a call back from them
Called and left both insurance agents a vmail which I am waiting for a reply from. Lets see guys ... Just wishing everything gets fixed and nothing serious about my pain.

Enterprise gave me a minivan as a rental took me 7 minutes to parallel park that Bi&*** this morning :-D hahaha

To the OP; When my Nissan was totaled in 2006, I contacted a lawyer and had them deal with the other parties insurance. I saved all my receipts, doctor visit payments, missed time at work and other payment and purchase (tylenol, pain meds etc) and presented it to my lawyer and got my money back.

If the agent tries to close the deal, don't do it.. Have him/her talk to the lawyer. The pain may not be obvious today, but what about in few months. Hopefully nothing major though, but do consider it.

I got a good payment out of my old car + other extra $$! :P

I don't know where you got mixed up.... Airbags deployed right on impact. I checked myself and tried opening the door after like 2 minutes of the accident .

Thanks man ! Life is what it is dude ... Just gotta deal with it ... and I thank God every second for being blessed ... Things could have been uglier ... but I'm glad .. You know what's upsetting though ...In the 12 years I have been in the U.S. I have helped almost 8 different people at different accidents inquiring about them being OK and not leaving them until Police or Ambulance showed up ... But when it was myself in need ... There was no one to even stop and ask if I need them to call 911... About 7 police cars drove by me ignoring the whole scenario and about a 1000 cars drove by .... It's just SICK !!!

"Realized i had been T-boned.... but was still in a state of shock. Thank God nothing was felt but i was shivering ... tried opening the door was stuck... Car became dark as side air bads were deployed .... "

^^I was just going by what you typed. At least the order you typed it. I'm sure all the shock of the situation didn't help. I'm glad that the airbags did their job and deployed immediately. Good luck having your car repaired.
