My altima is totaled, thinking about getting a TL

Whats up everybody, Im comin over from nissanclub.com
Been wanting a TL but never had the chance cus i was paying off my nissan since it pretty much came out. I got the opportunity to get one now cus my altima was totaled 4 days ago. Ive been looking around for a good price on a 05/06. seen a couple for a good deal. I really want the type s but i cant find any around jersey dealers. Plus i dont i could afford one cus correct me if im wrong, im not gonna find one for under $25k right.
What my question was, is the TL worth it, honestly. and what would be a good price if im looking at those 2 yrs and preferably under 70k miles.

Price is in the eyes of the buyer as we seem to all have a difference of opinion on the subject. Some will say 10-12K, while other will be more realistic. If you put a lot of miles on the car, and looking for one in the 70K range, service issues mount in a hurry 105K @ $1000.

The main question is the top price you're willing to spend excluding tax, tags, transfer fees etc. Do you want manual or A/T, nav or no nav, color preference, CPO from a dealer, although at 70K that might be a stretch as the dealers usually carry lower mileage vehicles.

Area of country you're located?

Hopefully you are ok from the accident.

Just so you know the type S was only available in 07 and 08 and just as you said the going price now for well kept Type S models with somewhat low miles are $25,000 to $30,000 range. I would recommend getting a non type S 07/08 as all the updates are very nice over the older 04 to 06 models. Not sure if those would be above your price range as well but you can find nice 07/08 nav TL's in the $23,000 to $27,000 range.
Goodluck!

You could definitely score a Type-S for $25k.. but it might not happen for a few months. It's worth the wait though.

Check out the Acurazine Black Market for sales & trades in the Off Topic section. Many member have there cars up for sale. I think you'll definitely be happy with the TL. They have issues like any car but overall it's a great car.

Things about the TL to look out for are P/S Whine, Rattles, Rattles, Rattles, and some sporadic A/T & M/T problems. If I were you I'd go and test drive a base & Type-S. Find the options you want - color, navi, trans, & interior color and start shopping. GL!

Thank u very much for the descriptive details. Im actually headed to a nearby acura dealer now. I called and they dont have the type s there but im going to test drive the base. I live in nj, and the closest type s i found was in nyc. Im gonna see how i like the feel of this today.

Im looking for a black exterior and not too picky about what color the interior would be but i fell inlove with that black and tan dash. Looking to stay under $20k as long as it has a decent amount of low milage, just because i know im going to have this car for a while. I love to mod cars so this is going to be my next project. Preferably MT, just wondering how is the AT with the "tiptronic"..? also I dont mind about the nav feature, would be nice but i have mine that i pulled out of the altima.

I was real lucky to walk away from that accident, a tree fell directly above my head, landing on the roof of the car and most of the windshiled, as i was driving. Heres a before and after pic.

Again thanks for all help and ill be updating if I do purchase a TL which WILL happen just taking my time with this buy this time.

your ride is clean.. glad you're okay. I have family members that have died from a tree falling on their vehicle.

Definitely get a M/T.. the A/T fails in comparison even with SS (electronically controlled shifting). Make sure to get an extended warranty as well and only with American Honda (factory ext. warranty). You'll have a lot fun with the TL mods and this forum is great with a lot of great & knowledgeable members.

if you can wait or willing to travel.. a type-s would be worth it.

Get a TL as long as you promise not to install that type of a grille

TL vs Altima... really? Find a good deal, and enjoy the car. But mostly buy what you can afford.

Wow that crazy to have a tree fall right on your car while your driving. Talk about timing!! glad you are ok.

That stinks that the type S's are so limited in other places. Man I swear every Acura dealership in the Chicago area has atleast two type S's on the lot. They are everywhere here.

Also, one other thing getting a TL without nav is IMO sooo stupid. Thats one of the key features of the TL and how advanced the nav system is. Makes the interior look sooooo much nicer as well.

How about an Aspec? 6-speed manual will be enough if you don't find a Type-S.
