Mpg....
Previously owned a 2003 v6 Accord Coupe, and on trips I would get 29 MPG on long trips, with air conditioning on.
This isn't a K&N Filters get great mileage post, although I do believe it helps, I'm just giving the details of what I'm driving and could be helping the mileage.
My 2005 TL Auto, w/K&N Filter at 9K I drove from NY to OH yesterday, and back the same night.
To Ohio, 392 miles, 30% of trip with climate control on, AVG 69 MPH, and that resulted in 33 MPG !!!!!!!
Back to New York, with a stop off in Buffalo (City Driving) 434 miles, climate control on 80% of the time, AVG 63 MPH, with a 32 MPG.
I could not be happier with the car overall !!
Although I could do without the worrying when leaving it in parking lots

this is because you are cruising, now i do alot mor city driving and i get 18mpg. i do about 60/40 mix of driving with some traffic in between. its not terrible but certainly doesn't conserve when used in the streets. but still pretty happy with the mileage with 270hp car.

On our new (1400 miles) MT, I get about 34 mpg at 72 mph, it might
go up to 36 if it was just hiway miles, but in mixed driving, mostly
hiway but with some round town driving, we have got 30 mpg
on a 250 mile trip, with the ac on the whole time.
That includes some of those fun bursts of acceleration that
the TL is so good at.
I expect this to go up a little as the engine breaks in some.
The tire pressure is set to 35 fronts, 32 rears, and some tires would give
a small boost to the MPG like the MXV4 energy....
Average long term mpg has been 24 for the last 400 miles or so.
My wife got 14 mpg tops with her Lincoln LS V8!
That car seemed to get 14 city, 16 hiway!
My FWD V6 passat got about 30 mpg on the hiway, but the long term
average mpg was about 20.
That was for a 190 hp engine.

I am not calling people liars, but I find 34 MPG highway with an expectation of 36 rather crazy. Granted a 6MT is 100 pounds lighter than the 5AT and has a different final drive ratio. Acura rates both for 20 and 28 which typically makes it easier for them to state the same mileage for both AT and MT cars. I know one person that brimmed the tank, drove 300 miles and then did not fill it past the pump shutting off. That made a big difference.
My 5AT has managed about 30 best guess. I call it 29 more or less at 70, all highway, with 10,000 miles, in the summer, one person in the car, and using synthetic oil (to those of you that think that makes a difference).
You should realitically get about 25-27 avg depending on how you drive. When I did mostly higway I got 27-28 in warmer weather. When I did mostly around town it was 22.

Not that I'm endorsing AEM's CAI but I'm averaging 29mpg on mostly backroads driving, I have yet to do a long trip on the highway to get my HW #'s, but can't complain here.....

Most people's mistakes...
First gear is usually where when you are easy is where you save the gas. IMO. If someone is goofing around I will still take it easy in first an still blow them away once I get into second.
My Accord was an AT as well.
And in both cars I used 0-20 Full Syn Mobile 1.

Here's a picture of my MID after I returned home from a weekend trip. I got better than rated MPG and I had the A/C on the entire drive. This was unusual, though, as I usually average about 26 in mixed driving, too.

I averaged 30 mpg during my 3000 mile round-trip drive to Colorado - 2500 Highway, 500 City.
This is according to the MID, which I reset before the trip. I also did manual calc. at each fill up, and the highest I managed was 33.7 mpg (pure highway driving) with ACC set at 72-75 (outside temp was 80-90). The lowest I got was 17 mpg (pure city driving), in Denver, where the temperature was 90-100+...
Once I had to use 91 octane, by the way, my highway mpg went down to 30, 31.
I was driving conservatively for the most part of the highway, but often did some "spirited driving" out of boredom (i.e. pulling out of the rest area ramp like a Nascar driver coming out of the pit, "unnecessary" downshift to 4th to pass, etc.)
My point is, 34 mpg is not impossible.

30+mpg gallon is not impossible but it will be about 90% highway driving with basically no traffic. bluenoises average mph is 63, he must have reset the thing on the highway as he was cruising cause it is very hard for most people who do mix driving to get that average. my average which is about 50/50 mix driving is about 20mph. traffic is bad here in the city, so that is why i end up with 18mpg. but most people do not consistently get 30+ mpg given real world conditions. if refering to just mpg on the highway and a sustained speed then fine. but other than that the car is definitely no honda civic in terms of saving gas.

We did get 30 mpg on mostly hiway driving, with little traffic, but went through towns on back roads, with lights, paying turnpike tolls, stopping to look
at the map (No Navi!).
If it was JUST hiway driving, at 72 mph, I bet I get over 32 mpg, as I got 30
with the other driving mixed in.
I think the MPG is VERY good for a 270hp V6 car with wide tires on it!
What do people expect, 300hp and 40 mpg?
Funny, but I read a report on edmonds on the long term test accord hybrid
that got much worse than expected mpg, same as the V6 accord...

My '04 manual tranny TL manages 32 MPG with average speeds in the neighborhood of 60-62 MPH, outside temps in the mid 80s, and the A/C on the entire time.
My wife's '05 automatic TL did an honest 31.25 last May on a 260 mile trip with speeds as follows: first 50 miles at 62 MPH, next 130 miles at 72 MPH, and file last 80 miles at 75 MPH. Trip was made without A/C on and the MID showed 31 MPG.

On a typical tank, I think my average MPH is about 30-40 MPH.

6MT, 3 people in TL, 70's temp, flat smooth road, no wind,
A/C on, tire pressure 39F 36R, engine warmed up when MID was reset

If you told me you worked for a competitive car company, that I would believe

I compared mine also for one tankful of fuel carefully filling the tank to the top starting out and on the refill, I found the MID to be very accurate also.
I have the shop manual and been meaning to read it to see if there are inline flow meters in the pressure and return fuel lines or if the TL calculates fuel flow with the time integration of the fuel injectors. My guess is it uses inline flow meters which are pretty accurate.
My overall mileage is ~25MPG, mostly suburb driving.

I figure the computer knows the consumption based on not on sensors but on knowing how big a dose each injector is delivering when triggered.

Unfortunately my TL is non-Navi.
Pretty cool feature.

You're correct there are no flow sensors on the TL so they must calculate fuel flow knowing the amount of time the injectors are open and calculating the fuel consumption rate.

pump to full at the same gas station at the same pump
drive it till it's almost empty and look at ur tripdomoter reading and take the miles and divide it by the gallons that u just filled up..
so if u drove 300 miles and pump 10 gallons, you get 30 mpg.
i got 22 mph on average with my turboed prelude, which is really good for a turboed car. i dont have a lead foot though. 2.3 liter engine.
my friend has a b18c1(94-01 integra gs-r engine) with a JDM b16(civic si) transmission and it's a closer ratio tranny and he only gets 18 mpg on average. it's a 1.8 liter engine btw :P

21 MPH
ever since I've gotten the car,
When I calculate my fuel economy myself its more like 22 MPG. It must have to do with the fact that I didn't even know you could reset the trip time, mine shows about 260 hours now, its been counting up ever since I got the car.
How do you reset it? I am not sure if I will, because I like keeping things just like I bought them, in fact I havent even taken off the sattelite radio sticker that sits above the Navi screen.
