Moleskin/felt w/ window tint.

Someone please explain this to me. I have only had my TL for about 4 days and have an appointment to get it tinted this Thursday and my guy mentioned that it would be an additional $10 per window if the windows require it. WTF is he talking about, and would it be neccessary on my 04? By no means will an extra $40 break the bank, i just want an understanding as to what he is talking about.

TIA.

Just do it.

It was $20 per window here. Figured I'd go cheap and only do the fronts. The backs scratched within 10 days. Had to pay to re-tint PLUS the $20 per door.

No Moleskin on 3G TL = Guaranteed Scratches.

how do you tell if you have moleskin. The car was tinted when I purchased it. I would get it to keep from scratches!!

With the window down look at the inside rubber strip(s) that touch the glass. If they have a felt on them you have it. If not and all you see is rubber, you don't.

If you don't get the moleskin, the weatherstripping on the inside of your car (which collects dust and crap) will scratch the hell out of your tint like it did on all four of my roll down windows. You other alternative is the cut the weatherstripping which I don't recommend. Check the sticky thread on the moleskin.

IMO cutting the strip isn't an option. It's there to keep the wind noise down and those who have done it are sorry that they have.

Get the moleskin, you will be pissed down the road that you didn't once you roll your windows down without it and it scratches all over your tint. I learned the hardway with that happening to me. And cutting the weather stripping isn't good either makes the inside of your car more noiser.

Had my tint done here in Florida (Holly Hill) on my 2006 TL and now on 2007 Type-S. With no mole-skin and have never had a scratch. Must depend on the installer or type of film they use. Guess I was lucky. He's done tint for me the last 20 years and never had a problem. One time I changed on my C320k Coupe and scratch the hell out ot the windows. So a lot to be said on references and the installer.

Thanks for the offer, but like i said above, i didn't need it.

BTW i got it tinted today w/ a Charcoal 15% tint. The car looks pretty sick now w/ the grey paint, A-Spec rims and tint...

I'm sure the 15% looks really good, but I wish you luck with it . . . especially in Cobb County. A friend of mine had 20% on his and got pulled over by Cobb's finest.

I had 15 on my Z06 for a few years and never had a problem w/ it. When i got pulled over it was always for somthing else. The cops made mention of it, but never ticketed me for it..

Hopefully that trend will continue..
