Missing button?

Did anyone ever notice that there's a rectangular cutout next to the side mirror adjustment buttons? Was there supposed to be a button there?
I'm guessing the foglights were supposed to be turned on with a button there.

this is PROBABLY for the jdm models where the automatic folding button would go for the side view mirrors.

Japan got the Saber / Inspire, both of which are very similar to the TL with only very minor differences (mostly cosmetic).

The usual 3 cutouts for Acuras are for TCS/VSA, moonroof and foglights or for cruise control.

I forget but do 2nd gen TL's come with foglights standard or as an option?

My 1st gen has them as standard.

It is where the SysRec button goes. (Same as on your PC keyboard)

I think that's where the sensitivity adjustment for the backup sensors goes.

It's where the passenger seat ejector button is placed. Didn't any of you guys option that? I got it at cost + installation. The great thing is they've finally designed it to be reusable so no more replacing the damn seat everytime I chuck some piker out of the car!

Don't know but my 2k 2nd gen also had a similar "missing" button in the same general area. 2nd gen's didn't have foglights standard although I believe the Type "S" did.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking of the 99-2001's but didn't know about the later years.

Guys,

I had an extra slot in my 97 Camry also and it was used for either adding the OEM fog light switch or for adding a blinking LED for an aftermarket alarm. I am guessing that it's for adding of an aftermarket alarm. It's silly to have a 3rd blinking LED but it's there if you wanted it. Just a guess.

this is not a guess. if you ask a salesman you will get this answer. its simply a knock out for any third party application such as lower fogs or something like that. you will find them in most cars that dont have all the options selected for purchase. the tl however doesnt offer any option that uses this knock out. by knock out I mean that it simply will hold a rocker switch or a button.

I'm saying that maybe Honda was gonna use that button for the fog lights but than decided to use the signal stalk.
Before I got my 2003 Accord coupe and TL, I drive only Nissans. On my Maxima and Xterra the fog lights are turned on with the signal stalk. But with the Accord, the foglights are turned on with a button near the TCS button. This is why I thought it might be for the foglights.

Maybe it is for a future option, such as shutting off awd, or locking the differentials, or the hybrid system.

Remember, they do not change the IP usually the life of that generation, so it is there for then next 4-5 years.

Here's my guess:

They used an already existing part, rather than make a new one with fewer knockouts.

This is correct. Most or all of my cars have had at least one of these "buttons" for future add-ons.
