Mechanic tried to charge me $180 for replacing rotors/brake pads
I was providing all parts, and when he quoted me 180, I told him that was a ludicrous price (politely of course), and even the dealer doesn't charge that much (although to be honest, I didn't check the dealer). He told me to go get it done there then.
This is only for the fronts.
How much SHOULD I be paying for this service?

Labor at the Stealership should be 1.5 hr and was about 130.00 for mine.
After finding out how easy they are to change I WILL BE DOING THEM MYSELF next time.
Do you have Brembos btw??

go to an independent shop and ask, they should charge less. 130 is about what you should pay just for the labor... for parts expect to pony up... where do you live? You might be able to get an azine member to help you for a Benjamin...

$180 a ludicrous price? you didnt even do your homework and you make this statement to him. what were you expecting? $100? dont forget that he also has to charge for labor (he has to make money some how right???) and he has to resurface the rotors.

$180 is a bit higher than it should be (if your saying it's for the front at least).
Brake jobs (R&R pads w/ either Resurface Discs or R&R Discs) generally pay 1.2 hours to the mechanic. I can double check this at work tomorrow. But 1.2 even at $100/hour woud be around $120 so $180 is a good bit higher than it should be.
Mind sharing what place this was at? (if that's not against the rules at least...I'm not sure)

I've paid 70 bux to install my pads and resurface front rotors.
The resurfacing takes good 30 minutes, as the machine runs thru it. The install of pads? This is a joke of 5 minutes a side.
$180 dollars? for install? To take out two screws with a few hits of the impact screwdriver? and then drops in the pads, $180? hell no.

DIY. Very simple! One specialty tool (Impact driver) for the two screws on the rotors, the rest are basic tools every guy should have.
Jack (provided with car)
Lug nut wrench (provided with car)
Hammer
3/8" or 1/2" ratchet
19mm socket to remove calipers
a 16 penny nail or thin straight pick or awl.
And some brake cleaner
Did I forget anything?
