License Plate Light Question

I am looking to change out my lic plate lights for LED's I was wondering what type of bulb has anyone else used and where did you buy them from. I was think about going with 7443 12 or 15 LEDs. I am not sure which one to go with. I would also like to replace my backup lights as well.

I used the same LEDs that I used for the interior dome lights for both the plate and backup lights.

i use PIAA 2 LED's and IMO they are perfect. not too much light and perfect white coloraiton. the raybrigs i have are too blue and slightly brighter.

The 7443 is a turn signal LED. You need a 921 for both the license and reverse lights

Anyone had problems with their tec-toyz lights flickering?

I noticed today when I unlocked the car that one of my license plate bulbs is flickering and I'm wondering if it's a bad bulb or maybe a bad connection. I'm guessing bulb since it's a constant flicker.

i had a genaric set of ebay led bulbs that had that problem. what happens is that they have a small circuit board within the housing and it goes bad. i upgraded to the PIAA's and have had no problems. i figure they put more R&D into their bulbs than most.

Wait... Aren't the reverse lights different from the license plate ones? I know when I swapped mine out, the bulbs weren't interchangeable between these two locations.

If I remember correctly, the license plate ones are the same size as the ones in the interior domes, while the reverse lights are larger.

Took me like almost 2 hours to replace the damn license plate bulbs from the inside for the new TL. Took me 5 minutes for my old '03 3.2TL.

if you buy led's be ready to REPLACE THEM!!!

i had some superbrightled bulbs for my license plate lights and they flickered and went out in about a month. my g/f also has um on her car and they are going bad. this is my second set (had superbright send me replacements) that has gone out. many other members have had this problem too. I really don't think the led's work well in that location. the lights are on for too long and i think they wear out the circuits. they work great in my domes but i went back to normal bulbs in the license plate and haven't looked back! just my

i've had my interior and license plate 9LED lights in for almost two months now and there hasn't been any flickering at all (knock on wood)...like i mentioned up above, i bought them from tec-toyz and they're hyperwhite...and they look sweet...
i haven't taken any pics of my license plate with the lights in yet, only the interior...i plan on doing that soon and will post them as soon as i do...

Both you and XTIN are technically correct. They ARE different sized bulbs (stock), (the reverse being larger) but they do use the same connector so you can use the same bulbs in each if you want.
