Question LED's bulbs for DRL's for 2007 TL-S

I just want to say that this is a great site!

I want to replace the yellowish stock DRL's with some low wattage LED's. So I purchased these PIAA TERA 6000K Ultra White LED 9005/9006 Bulbs from here ==> http://www.car-gym.com/catalog/produ...oducts_id=1232. The issue is when I plug one of these bulbs in the car thinks that the light is burned out (due to the low power comsumption of the LED) and shuts off the opposite light, but the LED is still on (nice and white, looks much better than the stock bulbs). If I plug in both LED bulbs the DRL's never come on. I know I can put a resistor across the bulbs so the car does not think that the bulbs are burned out but this defeats the low power usage of the LED bulbs.

Does anyone know of a way to keep the DRL's on with the low power LEDs?

I can still return the bulbs but I will have to eat the shipping costs. =(

Thanks in advance!

i think the resistor is the best bet, it doesn't make that big of a different on the power ..... i think as long as you like how it look thats all the matter ...... but if you are going to put them on ... can you plz post some pic? i really want to see how it turns out ..... maybe i will get one for my 06

Do you have some day time shot of your LED light bulb? I'm just curious as to how bright it is during day time

Thanks

I did not take any pics of the one LED DRL but the they are slightly dimmer than the stock halogen DRL, but they are white.

there's really no way around this....you really have to wire in a resistor/relay to simulate a load...oh yeah and like everyone else said; let's see a pic! (we're selfish bastards!)

I'm sorry, I sent them back. I could not get them to both work at the same time. I did not try installing a resistor.

Ok then, but when you installed one of them do they look good? Nice white-purplish color?

a set of resistors would have fixed this problems and kept you running at the same voltage. anytime you change a halogen bulb out, you usually need a resisotr to make it work correctly.

What is the value of the resistors? Where do you put them?

if the car has the drl light on, it will need a load resistor on a line at least/// maybe both. Load resistor goes between the - and pos of each line shorting out the line. ITs not a high load resistor so it works quite well but its a waste of power.

I would ignore the DRL light of the dash and build a high beam harness with a relay activator line which is activated by the pass side (active) and then hooked in parallel to both bulbs directly to the battery,.Its a basic relay harness and ur leds will get full 12v power too instead of 6v.

Good luck

ill do Gordon (Volly) car soon if he needs help with it. The harness setup will prob cost about 40$ to make and the load resistors are 10$ off ebay shipped. JUst i should be needed.... if at all... to just get rid of the DRL light...

ask Volly to bring his digi cam LOL "I work behind hidden doors" LOL j/k

btw 85$ for leds?? why would u buy those????

u can get superflux chips at 3W for 10$piece or less..

Piaa is a mock up anyways. Plus they are illegal as high beams, no car has devoted DRL 9006 beams. DRL is always shared so either way u would be screwed with this upgrade. But just for looks its ok.

Harness setup will not increase power consumption however the DRL light will stay on without an in line load resistor.

The DRL's (inside lights) on the 2007's are only used for the DRL's. When the headlights or high beams are turned on the DRL are off.

do they have fogs now? seems like a waste of 9006 for low wattage DRL.. it eats the bulb alive... thats why they develop that brown crap on them.

Ure talking about the 07 TL_S right>?? otherwise the DRL is on the TL fogs which are in the housing anyways. I guarantee u the 07 TL-s uses the drl bulb at full power for daytime flash to pass since hid is off anyways.

In any case direct swaps will not run the led at 12v thus they will be dimmer than a harness setup. Your idea would work in 05+ max where it uses a 12V (3157 or something) as DRL but its a 21W running at full power.

6V Drl will light up dim.... o well my DRLs are off hahhaha .... and i love it....its one of the dumbest features for cars... for bikes its great..

No real tips for the lights except that owners manual had the wrong light spec listed for the fog lights. Follow the manual suggestion to turn the wheels into the fender well. Mine were pretty hard to rotate but just get a good grip and a position that gives you some leverage.

Real easy. Turn the wheels to access the front of the wheel wells. Pull out the 2 plugs that hold in the wheel well liner in front and unscrew 2 screws underneath. This will loosen the liner enough to expose the rear of the fogs.

so, which bulb did you guys replace it with? I checked out the car-gym.com and the H-8 Piaa LED's are looking mighty attractive. Would that require a new resistor too?

Those would be nice. I bought some H-8's from ebay that had a 7000k output but i can't remember the brand (Nokya?). They are a little blue compared to the 4500k output of the HID's. They also don't seem to put out much visible light. They seem to get lost in the HID's. They do look much better than stock. They also were only $35 for the pair.
Whatever you buy for bulbs you will not need a resistor. That mod is needed for the DRL's for which this thread was originally started.

I should of payed more attention to the temp output to match the HID's.
I found the link to what i bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H8-Br...QQcmdZViewItem

Let us know how the PIAA LED's work out.

I sure will once I get around to ordering one. So far I've paid $350 for Ceramic Plus tints (all five glasses), $121 for all-season TL rubber mats, and $54 for the custom UV shade from carcraft.

Soon, I'll change the interior dome lighting to hyper whites and the fogs. If our HID's burn at 4500k...maybe I'll just get a 4500k bulb? It would be awful if the LED's outshine the HID's... that tera LED sounds neat! LOL. The DRL's being yellow is fine with me...they put out more lumens than any aftermarket bulbs...well, not sure about Sylvania Silverstars. Aren't the DRL bulbs specially made to last longer since they're almost on all the time?

Sorry for being a little off topic...

I just put a set of MTEC 4350K lights (JDM) in the DRL spots and like them. They definitely are more white than the stock ones. I tried taking photos but they didn't coming out showing a difference. Since they are DRL's the actual amount of light doesn't really matter as long as its within reason. It was all about having a cleaner look.

Cost $19.99 plus shipping on E-bay with a life time warrantee.

hahhaha JDM yo....

leave them stock.... or disable DRL... who cares about the look. Most ppl wont even look at your headlights... just TL enthusiasts. I hardly get ppl noticing my retros even on other cars and thats the way it should be.

The DRL's use 9006 bulbs i belive. They are dim because they run at half voltage.

I'd like to turn off my DRLs or send both powers to the fogs. I like DLRs but would also like the fogs on without the headlights. If I switched the power wires on the fogs to the DLRs and the power from the DLRs to the fogs, it would be interesting. I'd have 04-06 fogs and my fogs would be the DLRs. However, I still like the look of the fogs with the headlights. So if I sent both power signals to the fogs, I should have that control. The stock location of the DLRs wouldn't be used at all.
