Just Rolled my Fenders, PROBLEM!!
I just rolled my rear fenders and the paint is cracking on the edges. Is that normal? Its cracking and peeling away. You cant really see it that well but im worried about rust. In some parts if you look from the floor up you could see the bare metal showing.
How did you guys deal with this problem?

Did you use a actual fender rolling machine? Sometimes they recommend heating up the paint abit before rolling them. Who did it? And to answer your question no that is not normal. If you are worried about rust I'd say use some touch up paint on it.

Oh wow dude, hmmm I mean you could go back and bitch at them but don't know if that is going to do anything. I'd probably go back and be level with them. And if they are as a good as business as you say they are being around for 20 years they should make it right. But don't expect anything. Sounds like the method they use is a huge no no. But not your fault you didnt know. Next time ask on here for advice

Basically when alot of people run aggressive wheels, with tires or drops. The inner fender lining/fender rubs against the tires. So there is a machine that allow you to roll the inner lip of the fender so it eliminates the rubbing of the fender lining to the wheel/tire.

They used a hammer??! Wow. I have rolled fenders for quite a few people. (with an Eastwood fender roller)
I have never heard of someone using a hammer. That might be ok on someones drift car, but not on a TL.
Even with heating the paint and using a roller, there is a chance it will still crack the paint. I usually suggest to use udercoating spray, but if you don't have access to that, then a lot of touch up paint.

Dang man I'm sorry to hear! I need to get my fenders rolled before I drop my TL also, but I would never think to use a hammer! Thats horrible. I went to a rim place where they said they could do the rear ones for $100 out the door and they heat it up with a heat gun just like everybody else said here and he would roll it out for me. I was about to do it, but I decided to hold up and wait a little. I would seriously go back to the shop you went to and ask them what the hell were they thinking taking a hammer to a TL's fender. Granted, I am no professional, but no way in hell I would take a hammer to fix ANYTHING on my TL. Keep us posted for sure.

Stay cool, go back and make a complaint. Hope for the best, but expect the worst. Hopefully they'll find a way to make it right.

F1 is not that great of a shop from what i heard. They are a bunch of armenian guys who fix up cars with shit after market parts and they dont know how to install half the shit so they use tools like a hammer and bang up your fenders instead of banging their head with the god damn thing.

Yes...they are easy to use. No...that is one you can buy from Tire Rack...but trust me...somebody in every town owns one of these things and lends it out. Go to a local board and post that you are looking to borrow a fender roller...and there is likely to be somebody that will lead you to one to borrow...lol.

Damn... that's crazy... Sorry to hear what happened to you...
Sounds like they didn't have a rolling machine and since times are rough they could make some cash the old school method... They should have at least heated up the fenders during the banging...
Like others have mentioned... things happen sometimes that are out of your control... but if they are a reputable company/business they will rectify everything for you...
The key to rolling fenders is taking your time and doing one small section at a time while keeping the paint warm/ductile/pliable/yielding at about 120~140 degrees... I've rolled alot of fenders... and I only cracked the paint once... and that was for a friend that wanted to PULL his fenders to make some wheels fit no matter the consequences... he was actually getting the car repainted the following week... so I didn't even use a heat gun...

Question.... is the fender paint cracking on the outer edge???? or is it just in the inner section (fender liner area)???
if it's just inner section (fender liner area) then just mask the exterior perimeter... clean the inner section of the lip with "prep all" and spray undercoating to seal it from rusting...
Or take a picture of it and post... it would clarify things for everyone...
Good Luck...

You can say that you are not the one to blame here because you didn't hammer your fenders. Well one part of that is true. You didn't do the actual hammering but the reason people are poking fun at you (and you can't blame them) is you should have known better. Really, the reason those of us know what fender rolling is because we asked questions or researched about it.
People often trust those who give the perception of being experienced. Don't buy into people who say "I've been doing this for 20 yrs. etc." It is the biggest arrogant crock I heard, it doesn't necessarily mean they know what they are doing. I usually know more about cars than 80% of those I have encountered in dealerships or mechanic shops. (and that is sad considering that's their line of work and they make a living off it!) Based on what they did even a high school kid with 2 months experience modding a car would never have hammered fenders! Just as said the roller smooths out the fender and using heat makes the metal malleable and the paint flex a bit. Even with these safeguards paint can crack but at least you have minimized the risk.
Well what's done is done now. You need to go back to them and confront them. You can't complain that they used a hammer but they HAVE to fix that peeling paint. They are not going to do it if you are nice about it. Make a HUGE deal about it and get your way! It WILL rust if you let it go. Because it is under the fender where you can't notice, it may get bad before you know it and eat in.
