Is it just me... Or
Personally, no. I drive mine VERY conservatively. So much in fact that the wife complains that I drive to slow. I'm usually not in a hurry to get somewhere. Besides, the slower you go the more time you get to spend in it.
If I need to drive fast, I just pull out the NSX.

Most of the time I drive mine very conservatively too but other times I just can't resist. You have the 92 NSX? A friend of mine also does with the automatic and with 220 hp he'll be looking at my tail lights. Handling obviously no question the NSX will run circles around the TL. How do you find sitting so low in the NSX and then getting into (onto) the TL? Must feel like getting on a horse.

There is a dramatic difference in ride height between the two of course, but I dont' mind it at all. Each car is better than the other in certain aspects though.

Automatics are also good for 6.0-6.5 0-60 runs where as the best I have seen from TL's is 6.9 in MT. He must not know how to push the gas pedal down hard enough???

Anytime you want to line up a TL against my NSX go ahead. Make it worth my while though.
I can run 5.2 or less all day in mine without trying. I have slips to prove it.

All stated #'s are crank HP and not rwhp which can vary widely due to many circumstances.
jwater,
I do stand corrected in the M/T times.
I am going by what the chart for Motor Trend says here.
Issue 1-04 6sp 0-60 is 6.1
Auto 0-60 is 6.3
I usually drive what I would consider conservative (others call me crazy).
However, I love it when I have a friend into the ricer thing riding with me. I punch it and the v-tech kicks in and roars and the car takes off. They're always impressed and surprised at how nice this car is stock.
Also, I pass the civics/mitsunishis/etc with the under body lights and the fart pipes, 2' tall wings, etc etc, fairly regularly on my way home. They see the TL and every once in a while I'll let them pick a short race with me. I have always beat them with a good margin. I always hear them reving their engine trying to be tough when they pass me after I've had enough and stop ... and they catch up
. Its the sound of victory.

I had a Ford 150 Lighting pull up and want to go but the TL was too new so I didn't go. Don't think the TL could beat it off the line anyways. 340 supercharged ponies be a tough one...?
i would love to see this race. i would put my money on the NSX.

Best times I see in a road test was from Car and Driver of an A-Spec. Since there is no difference in power production of this car, we can take its times for a decent example (tires being the one improvement).
0-60 in 5.6 seconds
quarter mile in 14.3 seconds at 99 MPH.
0-60 in 5.6 seconds
quarter mile in 14.3 seconds at 99 MPH.

The Motor Trend has 1/4 of 14.4 @ 98.2
Either way, I don't think it will show an NSX it's taillights. Granted it is a quick car but not that quick.
My whole point was to 92NSX because a friend of mine has one. He has a 92 auto NSX and he thinks my 04 TL is quicker. I've driven with him and he knows who to press the gas pedel trust me. I'm not making a statement the TL is faster than the NSX but in this one case I've stated it may be...

golfer,
I do understand the point of what you are making. The TL does feel pretty darn quick off the line, I'll give you that. I haven't ever driven a auto NSX so I have nothing to compare it to. I take your word for it.

It's all good fellas
It's all good. The NSX is sweet and a real head turner. What year do you have? Any probelms with it? My friends only had a issue with the BOSE factory speakers with the amp built into each speaker.
I have a '92. The only real problem I have with it is the auto climate control circuit board is not working correctly so I don't have heat in it. The a/c part blows about 40-45 degrees though.
I too had issues with the OEM Bose system. It is a piece of crap.
I have upgraded the entire thing to an audio/video system now.

To 92NSX;
There are only two things about a tire, barring its traction capabilities, that can effect a car's performance: 1) diameter; 2) weight.
A larger diameter tire has the same affect as installing higher gears (final drive ratio). A shorter diameter tire has the opposite affect is is preferred for drag racing. And then you get to weight. Quite obviously, a lighter tire is more beneficial all around.
Now traction is a whole other subject and if you find a shorter and lighter tire that hooks up quickly and with minimum wheel spin, you will have something very good for the street.
To Rcat;
People buy cars for a host of reasons. Personally for me, performance is one of the most significant reasons there is. If I find a car that offers a decent level of performance AND a bunch of residual benefits, then I figure this is a good thing. The TL fits this mold quite nicely, thank you. And the best thing for us gearheads is that there are a lot of other cars out there that also fit this mold. This can only be a good thing for everyone.

If this is true, then that would seem to indicate that a standard Tl would be quicker than an A-Spec model.

The A-spec is more handling improvement than anything. Nothing done under the hood to decrease times.
