Just got a 05 TL~! WOOHOO!

After two long months of waiting, I finally got the TL. I ended up paying msrp because the Anthracite TLs were selling like hot cakes and the dealer wouldn't go any lower. But this TL is definitely worth every penny! What an awesome car! I could've went with SSM and saved up to a thousand dollars, but Anthracite is such an awesome color. I guess I'll need to change my avatar when I get a chance...

I have a question though. I only have like 7 miles on it, but I smell something burning. Its not really strong, but the smell definitely there. Is doesn't smell like oil, but maybe tire or plastic? Can you guys please help me?

Well, I'm sure you've all seen enough Anthracite TLs, so I'll try to take some nice scenic ones by the beach or something.

Canon1D - Can you tell me how to take pictures like yours? I have a Canon S50. LOL.

Jerky - I like your pictures too. But, what I really like is how you added the description at the bottom of each photo. I'm going to use that, if thats ok with you.

Congrats!... I know the feeling of having to wait...argh... mine is postponed until next week. They shouldn't have told me that it was this week, then I wouldn't have been disappointed :P.

Anyways, the burning smell... what does it smell like?... are you sure it isnt the toxins from the leathers and panels, etc?.

toxins = new car smell .. lol.

Congratulations for your new ride. I'll love to drive my TL on CA highway...

For the smell, check this out... this is most common explanation...

I ever smelt dioxin-like odor before, this was caused by the burning plastic bag melting on the engine pipes on the bottom of the car...

Please go to vote your color... https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/bought-fender-74135/

Good choice!!! Congratulations. The smell could be, like mentioned before, a trapped plastic bag on the exhaust pipes, or excess undercoating that is getting heated up by the engine.

excess undercoating... i don't know what that is, but it sounds right. anyways, i called the dealer and they told me wait and see if it goes away. if it doesn't go away by first oil change, then they'll take a look at it. they said its common with new cars. but i don't know if i should wait that long...

well, after having the car for 24 hrs, i found a RATTLE!
whenever i go over a bump, the Escort Passport that's attached to my windshield rattles. its really annoying and i think i should go talk to the dealer about that. lol, j/k.

i tried taking some scenic photos with the tl today, but its so much harder than i thought. i drove around for an hr looking for a good spot, but ended up giving up because i could find parking. but i'm not too disappointed because i was in such a nice car for an hour. hahah. anyways, i'll try again sunday and hopefully i'll have some nice photos. =)

I know there's a 6MT Anthracite Ebony w/Nav coming into the Milwaukee (actually Broookfield) dealer that is currently unsold. Arrives Dec 20 or so. I was looking at this until I realized how many Anthracite TL's are on the road up here. Anyway, the Brookfield dealer doesn't mark-up based on color, so you could get this for $33750 or so with a little haggling I would think...

update:

- the burning smell is slowly going away. it's just bad when i'm parked in a closed area, like a garage. but i'm sure it'll be completely gone soon.

- it wasn't a dealer mark-up based on color. i found a dealer that was willing to sell at a cheaper price, but they didn't have an anthracite in stock. and when i asked if they can give me the anthracite at that price if i wait for it, they said no. so i went to another dealer and just payed msrp and got car right away.

- i was able to to take some pictures finally. but it was foggy. so its not that great. but here's the link...

Congrats on your purchase, but I don't think any car is worth the sticker value.

Enjoy your ride!

It's most likely oils/residues on the manifolds, exhaust, etc that is burning off. Mine had this smell too, it will go away soon tho.

VERY nice pictures! The smell will dissapate eventually - oils use in the manufacturing process are on the exhaust headers, pipes, etc., and are quite common on new cars. We have over 13K on our TL now and it still turns heads when we drive by (small town, no sheriff, etc). You'll find this forum very helpful - congrats and enjoy.
