I just threw up.
I just threw up.
I just got back from school, drove around a bit in the bronx, anbd pulled up in my driveway in yonkers. I decided to give my car a house down to clean some of the salt off of the car. I was happy that my hose unfroze, as i kept it running since yesterday to let it eat away the ice. My day was pretty good in school, and excellent out of school. I didn't think anything else great could happen, and i was right.
As soon as i hosed down the drivers side door, i noticed a rusty spot on the car. I thought it was rusty birdshit, but god was i wrong. It is a chip that probably came fro ma highway pebble or salt. As soon as i saw it, i did not want to believe it was there, so i gently wet the area as to make myself believe it was shit, but then the chip just got bigger, a smaller pice of it fell off, and exposed rust underneath it.
I stood there for 10 minutes, clinically braindead, i did not want to believe what just happend. The chip is about have the size of the pointer finger fingernail. The usualy white color which is found under chips was not there, rather, there was disgusting rust. I got dizzy and nausieting, and i felt like murderinf an innocent bystander (I dont know how that guy coped with his loss, after his parked car was smashed up, in a previous thread). I hardly felt more angrier or hurt in my life, this ugly chip really messed up my almost perfect day.
My question now is, what do i do? I cant keep from noticing it, since it stands out so much from the NBP paint, the disgusting rusted chip, located on the drivers door, the left end near the front tire, midway between the bottom of the car and the door handle. What should i do? My first A1 service is due soon, do you think the dealer can be held responsible for the chip, since it is not a normal chip, but rusted? If not, what do i do? Is there a cheap ad good way to fix it? I dont want ot spend 100$ on it or something like that, since im saving my money for body kits, perf mods, and hopefully the supercharger. God help me, i feel so sick.

Thats what i wanted to know, if the dealer is gonna fix it no charge, its going ot relieve a lot off my chest. But it still will bother me till it gets fixed. I am not sure if it will be covered or not, since it is a chip, but it is rusted. Will it be covered because the rust is there, even though it was a chip? It actually looks like the paint was eaten away, since it seems way too large for a rock chip. That would also explain a smalelr piece coming off the same chip when i wet it, it was probably eated away at the base and jsut slid off.
I dont think the dealer will pay for this fix. What they going to say to you is that a rock or another car door hit your car. The snow mixed with the salt got under the paint and caused the rust. The rust protection that Acura provides with the car is under side protection. The rust protection I dont think it has to do with anything with the paint. Correct me if im wrong on this guys/gals.
there is no ding on the door, nor is it possible a car door hit mine because of the location. It also seems to big to be a rock chip - i have rock chips on 3 spots - they are bearly noticeable and tiny.
I dont really understand what you mean by underbody rust protection? The paint itself is not rusted, but i can see the actual metal under the pain, which is rusted.

I think what Acura will cover under their rust protection coverage are things like:
engine bay area
under the car by the exhaust pipes and so forth
I really doubt that they would cover the "exterior" body of the car because of some rust. Is it possible for you to sand down that area with a sandpaper and then add some touch up paint?
If it's all the way towards the bottom, then most people would not be able to notice the touch up paint...

i guess thats my only choice. Its not near the bottom, but height is about the middle of the door panel, and the position is toward the left end - the side towards the front time. i think if i use touch up paint, it might not be that noticeable there, well anything would be less noticeable then this, u could prob see it from across the street. Where do i get the touch up thing, and how much does it cost? Can i buy it at the dealer?

Ya you could buy it from the dealer...it shouldn't cost much...mine cost like $5.63 or something like that...or try www.acuraparts247.com
or yould could take the car in for your first service and complain to them about the rust and maybe if you are a good negotiator, then they could give you that touch up paint for FREE and they will also touch it up for you...depends on how "loud" you get and who you get "loud" with...

I was searching the internet and reading other forums - how other people's acuras had the same thing as me - it seems to be wheather related. The paint just falls off, revealing the metalic body covered in rust - thats the same thnig that happend to me, since i saw my pain fall off with ym own eyes. Acura used real delicate paint on the TL. It should not be my fault, and this should def be covered by acura - i read on another forum how the delear fixed his problem free of charge, they were helrf responsible. I jsut hope thats the same case as me. My father also has the hookup with one of the salesmen there, so i hope that salesman would have the power to do something if the dealer wont comply. The way it seems, i think if something is not done to fix this, the paint chip is going ot get bigger and bigger, it seems as it the rust underneath is eating the paint away.
Warranty
If you have rust on a new car it should be covered by your warranty and you should raise as much hell as needed have the defect repaired under warranty.
I would avoid using touch-up paints and get the rust and paint professionally repaired. It is near impossible to get a good cosmetic result with touch-up paint.
Make sure that whoever fixes the spot completely removes all rust or you will be puking again in a few months....

The body rust warranty covers PERFORATION by rust, not surface rust. That's all manufacturers as far as I know, not just Acura. Acura won't fix it under warranty unless it's a "goodwill" thing by Acura or the dealer.
Definitely not a warranty issue. Warranty covers "rust-through", or a hole through a body panel.
Rust can form on bare metal in an amazingly short time. Whatever chiped your paint exposed the bare metal and the rust took hold. A good paint detailer can make it disappear, and shouldn't charge you more a hundred bux. It's worth it.

Ill try to get pics, buts its gonna prob take at least a week. I dont have a digicam, so i would have to develop and scan them. Ill talk with my sales rep when i bring in my car for service, which is due soon - according to the display. I know im never going to feel the same, knowing rust ate away my paint. I was thinking of buying at the car near the last payments, but i think now i will just keep my car stock and get a new one when my lease is up.
Sorry man - no warranty will cover that. I have a deep chip on my '02 that has that nice stomach turning rust color too. Just too cold to touchup right now. The warranty covers rust that actually bubbles up the paint. The kind where you can actually chip away the metal of the car. What it sounds like you have (no pic to be sure) is a chip down to the bare metal - prob. like what I got - and some salt and crap got in there - now causing some oxidation. You can take a knife or something and probably scratch a line through it and get back to base metal. I am guessing not too many cars get rust claims these days unless a bad fit somewhere that traps the water etc ina corner - like a wheel well etc.
Good luck man - I hate chips and scratches.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Absolutely talk to the dealer .. if they won't fix talk to ACS and ask when the regional rep will be in your area to take a look at it as you believe it to be a defect... let the Acura regional rep make the final call.. A few years ago my wife's Honda had a paint defect which was the result of mishandling when it was coming off the train (touch up paint at the yard was done wrong).
Long story short .. regional rep told Honda to fix ... they did .. end of problem! See what they say .. remind them that it's a lease and your considering buying it outright ... worst case is they say no and you go have a body shop take care of it.

you need therapy man. you are a fucking ass clown. you realise that 150,000 people died in asia last month right? you realise that 75% of the world lives in poverty right? you're worried about a speck of rust on your bloody car? holy shit. something is deadly wrong with you. dont get me wrong, i like cars too (im a member of this site clearly), but the way you have just described your encounter with this newly found rust makes ME want to puke. i feel nauseous, i think i'm going to throw up. get a drip dude, theres more to life than your fucking car...
Heehaw - lol, nice response; and you have the right to tell me i am too serious? rofl. I just finished washing my car. i took pics of it, inlcuding the chip - 1 up close and 1 further away, i might take 1 more of it. i wont prob develop the film till this weekend(the earliest).
Thanks for the responses though - my oil life is at <10%, and almsot time for my first A1, so is it ok if i leave the chip exposed for another week or so, untill i bring in my car for A1, that is when im going ot talk to the dealer. You made me throw up so hard that vomit began to squirt out my tear glands - thanks a lot.
BTW, while i was waxing, i saw a microscopic scartch which was rusted as well - i will take a pic, but i dont know if it will be noticeable in it. Seems like this car has a high potential for rusting during winter monts. Both of my parents' aviators have damage to their body, with bare metal exposed - and a lot of it. It was like that for almost a year, yet there is no rust on either car.
Thanks again, and god bless you heehaaw. its not my fault 150k died in asia. People die every day, they are genocides going on as i speak, but it isn't my fault, is it?

The fumes from your vomit and the chemicals coming off your rusting TL facilitated an already depleting Ozone layer resulting in global warming etc., causing underwater earthquakes, global warming, and tidal shifts.... Rest assured, and get ready for more regurgitation because you are to blame..... Just don't get any of your acidic bodily fluids near the TL, it will only make the rust worse.....
On a serious "non-judging" note, I hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction with minimal financial impact....

No"sir".....
No worries, you don't sound like a 60 year old..... More like a jealous / disgruntled 15 year old with a "potty" mouth. But you are correct in one area, you will never get "your point across" using that approach. Maybe you will understand that "one day". Hopefully you won't be 60 when it happens....
Now, as Murdock maturely stated: Thank you for your input and God bless.
Spoiled? Definitely not. MY father came here as a teenager, went to HS for 2 years, and both of my parents worked hard until i was 12 years old. I barely had anything, and we were a borderline lower-middle class family. There were times when we could barely afford to pay rent. My father got lucky, as an entrepreneur, and now we are enjoying life, for all the hard years we had - enjoying life is something you should learn to do. Am i selfish, definitely not - i buy coffee and bagel for a homeless man every day on my way to school, i give my change to the people on the subways, and once in a while i help out with community service. I graduated HS wit ha 4.0gpa, and now attend one of the nations top schools, NYU. A little pompous; yes, but only because you made me.
My father bought the car ofr me as a gift, i never asked him to buy it, he thought i deserved it. I had nothing when i was younger, but i never complained. Even with the money my father has now, i never ask him for anything. He offers me money, but i never take it. I dont do any kind of drug, and i only drink on occasion, socially. Not a typical spoiled brat, wouldnt you agree? Your the one who actually sounds liek a pompous spoiled prick, your not God to judge, and you have no idea who i am, so it is pretty moronic to say much about me. Dont tell me about being materialistic, because i grew up with nothing, and i value and thank God for everything i have, back then and now.
Anyways, let me not turn this thread into my life story. For those of you who wanted pics, i have to waste a few more shots to end the film, develop, and then scan them - sorry, but it might take a while, ill post back here with them once i get them, for those interested. Tomorrow i will go to the dealer ot buy touch up paint, and i will tell one of the guy to inspect my car. Looking more closely at it today, it seems like surface rust which can be scraped off with a toothpick or something; ill try. My A1 is almost due; what is the usually going price for it? I might just do the oil change myself or let my fathers friend (mechanic shop owner) do it for me. I doubt a tire rotation is necessary at 4.5k miles, what do you think? Do you think they sell the paint pain or brush at the dealer? I heard the pen is easier to use, giving better results.
