I don't fit in an '04
I'm 6'5" and my head barely touches the moonroof shade when closed in my 2003 TL, and I have about 2 inches from my knees to the dash.
I tried to drive a 2004 on Saturday with the seat all the way back, and my head hits the glass of the moonroof and my knees hit the dash.
The saleman said they cut 2 cubic feet from the trunk, but the interior had to get smaller as well.
Oh well, MDX here I come.

I am 6'7" and I will probably be buying an 04 TL. I have to tilt the seat back quite a ways (no room for backseat passenger).
I am more comfortable in the 04 TL than I was in the 03 TL or the RL, I definitely feel I have more leg room and slightly more headroom.
Professor, I would check out the 04 TL again and play with the seat for a while before you make any decisions, just a suggestion.

More room to be found??
My brother likes extra room upfront and has had a number of cars modified by aftermarket companies that specialize on custom interiors for the physically challenged. They have all sorts of ways to lower the seat and extend the seat rails. I believe the cost was $200 -$300 and you could not tell any work was done. Look for a company that does hand controls, etc.
PS: For you BMW owners, most recent models have a built in plastic stop on the seat rail to limit rear travel. Poping it out gains 2 free inches upfront!!!!
OK, now your turn to help me: Silver with ebony or White with parchment? Lip spoiler or wing?

Silver with ebony... BANG!... looks presidential or something. That's my pick.

I'm 6'7" and 240 lbs. (I'm not a small man) and am buying an '04 TL because of it's interior room. I found that, when out on a test drive and having the seat in the farthest position from the dashboard, I had more room than our MDX. The only thing that I can think of is that the seat may not have been down as far as it can go when you took your test drive. When you go to purchase the MDX, try sitting in the TL once more and make sure that the seat is down and back as far as it will go.
Otherwise, the MDX is a good choice, we love ours.
Good Luck!

the new TL's trunk is smaller but the interior (cabin space) is larger. particularly in the front. look at the specs. do know that the steering wheel is telescoping? that makes a big diff for me on my 2003 accord. i am 6'4" and i fit better in both the 2004 TL and my 2003 accord, as compared to my old 2002 TL.

For what it's worth, I'm 6'3" and I fit perfectly in the '04 TL. Like most cars, I had to lower the seat quite a bit and pull out the telescoping wheel slightly to give myself enough knee clearance. Once properly adjusted, I was snug as a bug in a rug.

I just went to have my 02 TLS serviced today and got my first look at the 04. Like many, I found myself not fitting in the seat at first. I'm 6'2 and heavy and my hair brushes up against the headliner in my car.
I got in and adjusted the steering wheel, up and towards me a bit then lowered the seat and was very comfy. My head was a couple of inches from the roof.
The 04 is definitely larger inside... and I can echo what many have said on this forum... pix don't do the car justice. (btw, I saw a silver TL with the aero kit and wing spoiler) It looked great. I'm not digging the lower body kit but definitely the wing spoiler adds a nice touch.

I didnt buy an 02 for the headroom reason (i am 6'4) and I barely fit in the TL. Strange thing is I fit fine in my A4 and 745i, lots of room to spare, barely fit the 04 TL, better in the TSX and no hope in the Accord Coupe.

I'm 6'4" with a very long upper body and shorter legs (32" inseam). I bought the 04 TL because it is so much larger than the previous TL. I couldn't even get into last years TL, let alone test drive it.
The 04 interior is huge compared to last years. I've always had to buy cars based on their headroom; good headroom cars include the previous Mercedes E-class (haven't tried the new style), the Lexus LS430, and the Nissan Maxima without a sunroof.
But I got bored with each of the above pretty quickly. The new TL is a great car, especially for the money and the headroom.

hey Prof that sounds very weird to me I'm 5'9 And in my 2002 TL'S my head would scrape the sun roof with the seat all the way down. In my new 6 spd I have at least 2 inches. I guess you must have been in there with the seat all the way up. Measurements don't lie the car has 1.5 inches of additional eadroom compared to last year.

I'm only 6'2" & checking headroom in a potential new car is something I always do. When I test drove the TL, I noted to a buddy who was test driving w/ me that there was so much room I didn't even need to measure it Try it w/ the seat down...

None of the TLs have as much room as my two Legends did, but that's life.

That's bs Professor, i'm 6'-4" and i've got plenty of room. By moving the seat all the way back there is more than enough room for you legs to be stretched out. And if you put your seat all the way down there is also plenty of room for your head.

dude i'm 6'4" and i got a lot of space....try moving your chair down more...when i move my chair down i feel like a midget in my TL..am wondering why you don't fit...i think you might be around 6'7 or 6'8 if your knees would be 2" away from the dash
