I can't hear any rattles...is this a problem?

I've read so many posts about rattles and rattle fixes...

I just can't seem to hear them...

Maybe I'm getting old (48)...

Maybe it's the wine of my motor and 6MT...

Or maybe I have the DVD-A (Riding with the KING Clapton and B.B. King) playing to loud!

Whatever... :whocares:

Yeah, if you read other posts you'd know that if you take it to the dealer they can fix that. Among other things, such as scratching your aluminum and greasing your upholstry. Just be careful before then, you don't want to enjoy this too much.

Do this:

Change the rims.

Change the tires.

Drive 60 mph over train tracks.

Go from 0-60 in 7 seconds and then jam on the brakes for the stop sign. Repeat ten times in a row.

Take a few laps at the local racetrack.

Hit the twistiest road you can find and high-turn at 50 mph.

Now, hear the rattles? Under those conditions, you'll hear 'em. Just like all the other youngin's frequenting this forum who buy a car designed for a mini-Trump and drive it like a mini-Andretti.

This is a problem. Clearly related to your choice of listening to that darn Rock 'n' Roll music.

Turn your hearing aid up to "11". It's one better than "10".

Better watch out, it's a known fact that that combonation usually means that you are going to have major transmission problems

I hope and expect that your experience is the norm, however, some of us have had a few (in some cases many) squeaks and rattles. I have had two and both were easily corrected. Because we discuss the rattles and how to fix them in this forum, the how-to advice for both and others is on A-TL, so if your car 'loosens up' some in the future it'll be there.

Of course, you could play the 'dealer service lotto'. Hopefully they read A-TL too!

Ya I've had rattles too.
One in the glovebox, one in the center consule and one in the rear seat area.
My son fixed them by taking the mini-Maglite out of the glovebox, removing the CD jewel cases from one of the center compartments and lastly he removed the empty water bottle from the rear footwell.
Now all the rattles are gone.
I otherwise agree with Boltjames folks trash the car and then complain about stuff.

That's more than a bit presumptive, but I hope your car continues to perform in a manner that allows you to maintain this perspective.

The TL should be able to complete all of these evolutions without rattles. Really.

I don't disagree actually. But it is likely that it's a major contributor to the amount of bad press the rattles are getting in here. Methinks that if this forum was filled with the 43,000 40 year old dad's driving their '04 TL's 'normally' instead of the 300 20 year old students driving their TL's aggressively we wouldn't have newbies posting threads like "Should I Get a TL Considering All Their Problems?"...

Unless the car is driven over pothole infested roads or off-road, it is hard to see how the manner in which the car is driven could cause interior rattles. In my case, it's more likely the 30 degree daily heat cycle and 100 degree temperatures my car gets exposed to. I'm typically in my car for two hours at a shot, so that gives me a pretty good opportunity to notice and be annoyed by rattles and such. The biggest culprit is actually how quiet the car normally is - it is wonderful and any deviance from that, especially when it interferes with enjoying the sound system, is incredibly annoying.

I'm not here to sell Acuras or ignore the cars faults. I think it sells itself, even with a few minor issues that some have experienced. The two rattles that I have corrected in my car were due to inadequate or incorrect placement of foam and felt. Acura clearly knew the parts in question (headliner, door trim) had the potential to rattle, but skimped on the necessary insulation to prevent it from happening. Maybe they saved $.50 per car by doing this? I consider this an engineering issue, not a build quality or severe usage issue. Both were fixed easily and inexpensively.

For the record, I'm a 34 year old dad and I treat my TL very well. I do push the car sometimes, but I have the respect for the car and experience to do so sensibly.

Get your wife/girlfriend and put her in the passenger seat and start driving like a raving lunatic. You'll hear all kind of rattles coming out of her mouth.

I'm a 48 year old dad.
Been driving a stick since 1971 (probably before you were born).
I've been to driving school.
I drive safe...I've never had an accident other than hitting a coyote who didn't look before he crossed.
I believe you can't have too much horsepower.
I don't drive "normally"
Don't look now, I'm about to pass you BJ.
In case you didn't get it...
My thread was satirical (look it up).
Enough about the rattles...enjoy your ride!

"Experience" does help. Still can't get over the "water is dripping on the ground after I had the A/C on. Is this normal?" post. Sheesh. Get a bicycle.

Just can't wait to get my hands on that Infiniti G35 6MT sedan that I should have bought in the first place.

In the meantime, do you think I should paint my TL Yellow?

I personally think the TL would look awesome in bright red .. 'specially the A-spec w/ the gunmetal A-spec rims...

Lemon would be overstating the fine lines of the TL....

I am getting mine Tuesday and need a source for a spoiler that resembles a picnic table to bolt onto the back. Any suggestions?
