How good are your brakes??
I have the TL type s and too me it sucks for stopping, it feels so heavy!! They will stop when you need it but all in all I hate seeing lights turn red it freaks me out actually because I know I have to stop the big TL every time!!!

to improve braking on the car, one typically upgrades the brake calipers and rotors. TL-S have Brembo fronts, so better pads and slotted calipers would be the next typical upgrade. using hi-temp brake fluid and braided steel lines (for less line flex and better pedal feel) improve it the next level. but to ultimately chop down your stopping distances, light wheels and sticky tires are your best bet.
honestly, just swapping your tires with R or near-R compound tires and lighter wheels will give you the most noticeable difference in braking/stopping performance.

Hey bro thanks alot!!
I have BBS forged wheels off an Evo, and compared to stock TL/TL-S wheels, they're MUCH light.

thanks for the advise bro, I also checked out the fog light thread it was sick!!!

The Tl whether base or type-s stops extremely well. Look up the stopping distances and compare them with much more expensive sports cars and I think you will get an idea of just how good it stops. It may feel like it takes a lot of pedal effort but actual stopping is awesome.
poor stopping? I have a base TL so I'm not sure how you could be feeling inadequate braking. Is it pedal feel or actual stopping? btw.. the braking distance vs. speed is not linear.. 70-0mph is far different than 60-0mph. Keep your speeds moderate.. defensive driving is key and knowing your travel limits.
get awesome rotors and brake pads to reduce stopping distance by 20-30 feet
install SS brake lines to improve pedal feel- it doesnt increase braking power- but when you go full effort braking the lines dont expand and reduce pedal firmness- - same thing when hot- makes it feel like no brakes on rubber lines
Here is the easy thing to do first for everyone
Flush the brake fluid
Supposed to do it every year starting at beginning of year 3 of cars life
Even if your car is 1 year old, start now and be safe
Moisture gets sucked into the brake fluid and degrades it
You will be shocked by what comes out of the caliper as new fluid displaced old

Maybe you got yours used, and need to re-bed them?
I disagree- not talking bias or tire stickiness which are factors-
BUT
when you have better than stock pad compound on the right rotors- you can reduce the stopping distance
The TL has a `compromise compound` - made to fit the general populace where mom drives it gentle and wants no noise or grabbiness, dad drives it like a race car, the kids drive it like its dads car not theirs...

We can keep this up forever, but it's not the compund. You can slam the brakes on as hard as youi can and with the Brembo, base TL, or any other compound, it's not going to stop any faster. In fact, the Brembo's and stock Tl's have almost the identical stopping distance depending on the report, in fact some reports indicate that the base TL has a shorter stopping distance than the vehicles equipped with the Brembo.
You'll find the following article to be quite interesting as the stock pads will stop shorter than when the car was fitted with stainless steel braided brake lines, 328x28mm (12.9x1.1-inch) slotted two-piece, fully floating rotors with aluminum hats for the front, four-piston fixed squeeze-forged aluminum calipers with StopTech's patented X-brace bridge design, Axxis Ultimate pads for the larger front and stock rear calipers, and all the necessary hardware and brackets to mount the larger front brakes.

No one mentioned yet but the brake assist / boost is adaptive and will apply force based on your driving style. Might be something to consider in relation to psychological brake feel.
I've got no problems stopping. I kind of look foward the light changing yellow at the last second.

I suggest you to go to somewhere you can speed up and hit the brakes hard...
Do it a couple of times....
Then, your brembo's would respond like a snap...
BTW, I love my brembo's.... they are amazing.... Especially after my last oil change, using Castrol Sync (as shown on FF4)... They released my engine's hidden power... and now, my brembo's are working extra hard....
I love my TL-S

When I got my TL-S, it took me a while to have my brembo's work correctly.

You know what somebody else told me that I will def try it!!
Also I use Mobil-1 and V-power gas only, and I def see increase in engine performance!!!
I chose not to comment on that one....I just got to test my base brakes out on the way home. I was going 55mph, had a lady make a right turn in front of me. Hit the brakes, first time hitting anti-lock in a real situation, checked the side mirror, nowhere to go. I was literally entering the intersection when I hit the brakes and in my mind I was just hoping the airbag didn't deploy and staring at the trailer hitch. I wasn't wondering if I was going to hit her, I was hoping the damage to the car was minimal. It was unbelievable how hard this car stops. I'm very happy for the wider high performance tires. I stopped with about a foot to spare, it would've been an accident on stock tires.

Just floor it an go thru man, only pussies stop for red lights.

I have a a base 04 as well and the brakes are AMAZING. I've been able to stop my TL in emergencies (city traffic) going from 25-30mb to absolutely 0 in less than a second with almost no skdding. Enough to fling me forward due to the low inertia. The Seat belt however is also just as safe.

These aren't in that 1% but damn.. my next DD is going to be a GT-R.
