Here's an Interesting Revelation

My check engine light came on recently. The tester revealed codes P0172, P0175, and the computer printout just suggested a valve adjustment to fix. I've ordered new upstream oxygen sensors, but I discovered that when I use Shell V-Power, the check engine light goes off and says off. As soon as I run another brand of gas like Costco 93, it comes back on! Is the new formula of V-Power that powerful? Flipped out, huh?

I'm sure I likely need new O2 sensors after 314K miles, but could V-Power be the ultimate gas to run our cars on?.

What's more interesting is the system stops throwing those codes when the light goes off! I'm still gonna replace 314K mile/15 year old O2 sensors and get another valve adjustment anyway despte the fact that I can still do 0 - 60 in under 6 seconds.

Huh....I mean, I'm not sure about V-power, but I use marathon 93 "with STP fuel treatment added" and I would think maybe that the shell stuff is similar.....Which is essentially a bit of seafoam in your gas, removing carbon deposits, removing moisture in fuel systems, etc. I would think there's probably a correlation between the codes and using a treated gas, vs using untreated gas. BUT, correlation does not imply causation. So who knows lol.

Costco is treated with plenty of detergents. For me, its V-Power or bust.

If you have a bluetooth OBDII reader using Torque app, and can read that the short term fuel trims are jumping wildly, then you should replace the 2 downstream O2 sensors. I recently replaced the 2 downstream O2 sensors on my AV6 and gained 2mpg. Short term fuel trims stopped jumping wildly. upstream AF sensors aren't the issue for me. I had no CEL either, just figured I should change them out after 305k miles while I had the exhaust dropped to reseal the oil pump.
