That does look like a lot of work, post pics when you get it fixed. Just curious, how much did you pay and how much money will it take to fix it?

ehh not really, most of the work is just replacement, fenders, radiator, bumper frame, bumper, headlight etc....paint and once is passes inspection, it's ready to go.. hehe My 04 maxima was in allot worse condition before it was repaired. You just have to have the right body mechanic, the shitty ones will fix it so it looks like it was in an accident, the good ones will fix it so the best mechanic would'nt be alble to tell this car sustained any damage.

off the auction went for $3950, how much is it going to cost to fix?, my body mechanic has to evaluate everything to see what parts he needs, what he can save, etc.. but overall maybe $4,000 tops to fix it, then pay labor to the body mechanic, and it's still allot of cash left over in my pocket then buying it from a dealer. Selling it is not as easy, takes a bit longer, as most people are scared off by the rebuilt title, but it still sells.

No, I will keep this for a while. The only mods that I have planned so far are the Depo tail lights, and side markers. Intake I'll skip, it rains quite often in CT.

Sometimes it's just cheaper to buy another TL, and put one good one together, which is done allot.

This one would not be a bad idea:

That's not bad at all. My Mustang was wasted way worse than that from the shock towers forward. We ended up buying a front clip and welding/swapping panels to the wrecked one. If you have the tools and the knowledge, just about anything is fixable. You should easily be in that thing for less than 10K all said and done. Nice find!

Friss, do you need a salvage license to purchase these cars or be able to go to auctions? Do you have any info on these auctions? I know every state is different but please chime in. Thanks!

yeah. 4k seems pretty low for a new front end and fenders plus engine parts (radiator at least)

My bill was 5k after a minor fender bender that required replacement of the rear portion, rear bumper, some plastic in the area and a repaint.

good luck with it.

Yes you need a dealers license, to purchase it, so find a buddy with a dealership and just bid, it's like a regular auction.

These are the two main websites body garages use to purchase these cars.

www.copart.com

www.salvagedirect.com

Copart has facilitates all over the United States almost in every state, and you can always purchase a state or a few away and just pay for transport. People bid on these cars from Inida, UK, Africa, all over europe, so the best bidder takes the car. You can go to recently sold section and actually replay the auction.

Wow! How was that Type-S classified as being totaled? And the one you had picked up didn't look too bad at all either.

The insurance totals it because their appraiser quotes a high estimate for repair. The reason for this is because the will quote dealer prices, dealer labor, parts, etc..... So a dealer can probably give me an estimate of 6,500 to repair the acura I purchased when in reality a secondary body shop can do it for 3,500-4,000. There are some cars on the auction that you wonder why it would even be considered totaled, it depends on the appraiser if he knows his sh*t or goes by dealer estimates.

Yeah that's what I thought. I had a windshield replacement, bumper, lip, and hood resprays, new side mirrors and some new headlights, and that was already 5k. Well, if you can get that fixed for 4k.. then more power to you. That's a heck of a deal.

Hello to everyone, I am a new member to this site and really enjoy it, anyhows, i thought i'd mention that i also bought my 05 TL, in SSM auto withoutout navi, wrecked from an auto auction. It had 19K original miles and needed most of the front end parts replaced. My total price for the finished car came out to under 12 grand. Many people are scared to death of buying wrecked/salvage vehicle, i have only had them and havent had any major issues with any of them. The most important thing is to have a serious experienced body shop do the work. I may post some before and after pics later when i figure out how. So find urself a buddy with auction access and scan the auctions, see what you can find. good luck with your tl Friss.

Damn.. I'd buy that Type-S.. if it only needs a new bumper, fender, sensors, airbags, dash cover & side mirror.. hopefully the engine & valves are okay.. This is a weird looking wreck..

So, what's the verdict? How much did it cost overall including labor? If it was $4k for parts, what was labor?

Bought it of the auction for 3,950
Copart charges a fee of 300.00 Plus the towing Transport fee from Syracuse, NY to CT was 300.00. I am picking it up Tuesday parts came out to not even 3K, most expensive things were the air bags, total registration and taxes paid the car will come out to around $12,000 maybe a bit less.

(Im paying my mechanic) If someone has body work experience and knows the car well, and has a painting facility you can probably get this car done for 8,000-10,000K tops! But like I said my mechanic has to make money, that's his trade.

Nice. But how much of a discount is your friend giving you on labor cost? Cause I probably can't get the same price from him.
