Help! Did something fall off from my car?!

Scenario:

Driving home in the pouring rain late at night and was stopped at a red. Light turned green and a proceeded in doing a left turn, then suddenly heard this loud clunk of metal sound going through the passenger side of my vehicle. I safely stopped on the side of the street to try and figure out what it was. It looked like a round metal object, its size similar to the cap on a fire hydrant where the hose is attached to.

After determining that it didn't seemed to be from my car, I started my car back up and drove home. Car drove fine with no problems so far.

Does anyone have any idea what it may have been? Does it sound like a mechanical part may have fallen off or am I just over-thinking it?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks~

P.S. I have to drive to work early next morning and wants to know if it's safe to do so.

^this

maybe it wasn't raining and it was WAS the cap to the fire hydrant maybe the fire hydrant was spewing water and you thought it was raining

Still check around but i think it was debris in the road. if you didnt notice any abnormal driving after the incident happened then hopefully it was nothing from your car.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Sorry, I forgot to take a pic of the object because I was too worried and rushed home to check my car out under better lighting. Stupid me! Time to drive to work. Will update with any driving abnormalities once I get home tonight.

I can't think of anything metal that would break loose from the bottom of the car. Betting on road debris.

I hope your paranoia doesn't get the best of you and trick you into thinking that something is wrong with the car on the drive home!

+1 to road debris, I think you'll be fine.
