Hello All....

Thinking about an 04 TL as a "rational" alternative to an M3 (no debt,) searched and found you guys to look for problems so far.

I have had 4 honda/acura products in the last 8 years, and have had very few problems. I think that on the whole, they are some of the most trouble free automobiles on the road. They sell a good product, and (especially Acura) offer tremendous value for the $$$.

I hate to get off on the wrong foot, but here goes.....(flame suit on.) Here's what I have noticed so far about the previous posts.....NOTHING MAJOR.

A loose dash bolt? Wind noise? Small creaks on rough roads? EIGHT (OHMYGOD) minor flaws in a paint job? A visible weld?

Holy COW Martha, sell our Honda stock, they are going down the TUBES! Damned Japanese have got us again!

Do you realize that there are people spending half again as much money on cars that have MAJOR problems? Dropped valves, COMPLETE transmission failure, the works. Head on over to the Audiworld B6 S4 forums; those are problems. BMW had a bad couple of months with the M3 a couple of years ago; that's a $17,000 ENGINE. There's a guy who's new 7 series calls 911 everytime somebody's headlights activate his auto-dimming rear view mirror, because his wiring harness is flawed.

My point here is, let's keep everything in perspective. The thing hasn't started throwing rods yet...Even in it's first year, I am convinced that the TL is better than 85% of the new cars out there.

With that said, I hope that I have not pissed anyone off too badly. I look forward to corresponding with you all.

The TL is a great car at a resonable price. Have had 4 Acuras and your right, trouble free and dependable. Some of the issues here are minor, but if you don't ask you may never find the answer. I've found the people here very helpful.

Only thing I would warn you about is the tires. Many complaints. If I had it to do over again I would have the dealer replace them before taking delivery. The EL42's are bad. Can't figure out why Acura choose these. My best guess is Bridgestone gave them away to get thier name back.

I'm pissed! I'm pissed!

Why? 'Cause I don't have my TL yet!

The TL and M3 are different beasts altogether, I think. I do agree that the TL is a great value in comparison. I think most of the problems described here are pretty minor and I've had only tiny problems on my early build car. 3800 miles and still making excuses to go places in it!

Welcome, and ask away, as the number of interested people here asking questions is what I enjoy about this place.

M3 vs TL

LSB,
Believe it or not the other car I was considering buying was an M3. I have already had 2 bimmers in a row followed by 2 nice Infiniti cars. I get a new car every year, sounds crazy but my business allows me advantages. I really liked all of the technology in the TL and the nice interior. In the end I decided to purchase a TL and a Mini Cooper S to keep me satisfied. I really wanted something fun to drive (Mini) and something fun and luxurious (TL) plus lots of toys. The price ends up being only slightly more that the M3 and it will take longer to get bored of 2 cars. I will tell you that the TL is an exceptional highway cruiser and all of the toys are great. I will be changed the tires and if I had to do it over again would have made the dealer do it.

Hope this helps!

You're right, altogether different. This is purely a right brain vs left brain thing.

The M3 is one of the greatest performing cars on the planet, but it's not cheap...Living in Houston, I would put a LOT of miles on it, which I'm not sure I want to do. But man that car is just beautiful. Every time I see one I start making Tim Allen ape noises.

For what I would put down on an ///M, I could almost outright own the TL. Great styling, great mileage, and as my previous experience shows, it could take the miles and I would have no problems. I was quite impressed with the 6spd.

Why would you think that you are pissing someone off with that post.

I don't understand why you would think that when in actuality you were praising the car that this board is all about.

Seeing as how some folks were "sensitive" to the nature of what I considered insignificant, minor TL problems, I thought anything might be possible.
