I think I need some guidance

But i'm not sure.

This is what is wrong;

Grinds 5th (and only 5th) unless I double clutch. If I pump the clutch it sounds like a squeeking noise almost. Which I think may be either the master or slave, I'm thinking about just replacing both and being done with it?

Burns oil and smokes when I put some pedal into it. (found oil on the plugs). I am going to get the gasket kit this weekend. Its only 20 bucks and it wont take but an hour or so to put it in. So if that fixes it, great. . If not... The only other thing I could think of would be rings?

Oh... And either my O2's, EGR or Cat is bad. I have had 3 different people look at my car and those are the 3 different things they came up with... I have pretty much eliminated my cat because I don't smell anything and I don't think that it is turning red. If it were, I know I would smell a burning smell. Is there anyway to test O2 sensors, like at autozone or whatever?

I think that is all....

replace the master and slave, that might not help but its worth a shot. cheap parts and wont bother you later

i had the same issue with oil on my lude- smell during acceleration, excessive exhaust smoke, oil on plugs. vc gasket fixed all that.

no idea on egr, o2. try one at a time. process of elimination

As far as the gaskets, yea I think that is the cheapest easiest process of elimination..

The only reason I was thinking its the master/slave is because its pretty much a new clutch. I mean less than 10k on it... I don't know what else it could be..

I had the same kind of issue with 5th gear when I picked up my CL. anything >55mph = grind unless i let the rpm drop before engaging. It doesn't do it anymore, so I just blame it on the fact that an old man owned it before me.

Tried that.. Does not work. It happens at 5mph it happens at 60 mph... If im rolling, it grinds.. Only 5th though.

If I remember correctly, the 5th gear sits pretty high in the transmission. Are you low on fluid? Have you tried switching to Synchromesh?

I had a grind going into 5th in my GSR tranny at high RPM. When I rebuilt my motor, we filled it with Pennzoil Synchromesh and it "fixed" the problem. Or at least it hasn't done so since then.

It's worth a shot.

Yes. I don't remember the number that it gave me though. 79k.

I don't think I am low on fluid. I'll check though. Thanks.

I am looking at O2 sensors @ autozone.com and I see some that specify in front or behind the cat, then I see others that say "universal"... What in the hell is the difference..

universal ones you have to wire up yourself, where as prefabbed ones come ready to plug in. I save the money and get the universals.
