Red face Guys, I messed up! (side mirror)

08 TL

So today at work I backed out a little faster than I should have and heard a big CRUNCH. As I was backing out my passenger side mirror clipped a concrete pillar and the housing cracked. The mirror is still on there, but it was hanging by 2 wires and I just pushed it back into the housing.

Can someone tell me the best method of action to this fixed?
- Dealer fix or order parts?

Anyone know about how much this is going to run me cost wise?

I feel like such an IDIOT. I've had this car for not even a MONTH yet! Arghhh, I'm going to be much more careful in the parking garage from now on.

Thanks for everyone on here, you guys have been great.

How about getting an idea from the mirror threads in here? Do a search for mirror. If you can just replace it by DIY, then you are cool. Somebody, I think sandiegodrive has done a mirror swap.

Good luck!

DIY replace = parts + mod opportunity.

If the housing cracked then most probably it's not worth fixing. You may be able to salvage parts from another broken mirror but it depends on the damage and what needs to be repaired. The mirror needs to be sturdy for years to come because it protrudes off the car. A mirror goes through a lot. Someone just walking by may walk by and brush up against it and your 6 hr repair will be pointless. If you wait and watch a bit, you can get mirrors on Ebay for a steal! I have seen them go for as low as $40. And next time watch your mirrors when you back up

I was driving once and a 2x4 was ran over by a semi and a chunk of wood flew at my sisters 07 4runner and broke off the mirror, leaving some wire harness hanging. Bought a new housing and installed it myself, didnt take more than an hour of my time. PRetty much pull apart the skin on the door, disconnect some wires, loosen some bolts and plug some wires in. Hopefully its the same in the TL. I have my TL in my apartments garage and its a bitch to park, im always afraid of clipping a pillar. good luck

I replaced my 05 TL's side mirror once. It's pretty easy, 1 hour max with some basic tools.

Acura sells replacement mirror assemblies prepainted for around $200. 08 TL may be more expensive due to the turn signal repeater on the mirror housing, but it's still easy to install.

AND BUILDING PILLARS !

Yes, that's me. I am trying to get used to Corporate America. I'm still trying to find a dress shirt that won't rip to shreds when I flex.

Thanks for all your help guys. I decided to get it fixed at the dealership. I have neither the time nor the resources to undertake such a daunting task (i.e. too lazy). I am going to be much more careful from now on.... ughh stupid small spaces in that parking garage.
