Great trunk mount bike rack for TL's
Hi guys,
Since its almost Spring, and those of us in snow country are starting to get the bikes out and riding again, thought I would post my comments on a new bike rack I just got for my '06 TL that is easy to put on (and take off) and won't mess up your car! I did not want to hassle with a roof mounted rack or having to install a hitch, this seemed like a simple solution.
It's by a company called Saris (Madison, WI) and it is the Bones RS model. Kinda pricey, about $250 but it holds 4 bikes and is sturdy and doesn't mess up your bumper or paint like some of the other ones. Also has a built in lock to lock the rack to your car.
I checked out other ones by Yakima and Thule but reviews talked about scratching paint, etc. so steered away.

Have a good one.

Interesting, thanks for the info, I agree, that looks like a pretty good setup. I was leary of all the other bike rack systems as well. Was thinking i'd have to get a hitch. Best of all their product pic uses a TL!

Geez do I feel like an idiot! I did not even see the TL in the ad!
By the way, this rack will not work on TL's with a rear spoiler. Their customer service is great and they will tell you what you need to do if you have a spoiler.

I went through that problem when looking for a rack. Sucks even more because I didn't want the spoiler but it was the only one on the lot.

I looked at this rack when i was researching last year. Doesn't work with a spoiler or Type-S lip. The regular Saris Bones rack (not the RS) does work great though! Just be careful to get every little particle of dust of the car and the racks rubber foot before using it. I made the mistake of putting the rack on without taking some dust off the foot and now my trunk has permanent "brush marks" from where the foot rubbed while i was driving.
edit: the BOnes works great with the Type S lip. Not sure it would clear the regular TL spoiler.

meh...it touches the paint...add heavy bikes...personally i would NEVER use a trunk rack.
hitch or roof rack for the TL. i had a roof rack on my TL it was perfect.
hitch rack for the MDX...saves MPGs over putting them on the roof.
and the thought of taking my bike apart and shoving it into the trunk or into the car shame on you for disrespecting your car AND your bike all at the same time.
but hey, whatever works for you...it's your car. abuse the way you want to abuse it. just sayin'.
