Got a Ticket for Illegal Tints!

I reside in NY and i got a ticket for having illegal tints. The cop actually used a device to measure the tint and came to 14%. The officer was very nice about it and explained why its illegal and blah blah blah. The officer was telling me how he should be cracking all my windows if he was to follow the law. He made it seem like he was doing me a favor. He said i can either just pay the fine and keep my tints and risk getting pulled over again or get it removed and not pay the fine. When he was saying this, he seemed kind of unsure as to what he was saying. Does anybody know how the process works? If i remove the tints, do i send a receipt from the shop that removed my tints and send that along with the ticket or do i have to take pictures of my car upon removing the tints? I've had illegal tints since 02 TL-S and have never gotten a ticket. My first time. (BTW my cars WDP 08TL-S).

to my knowledge, you need visual proof such as pictures of the removed tints. idk if its the same for NY.

well some judge are different you can take it off and get the ticket kicked out or you can take them off show the judge and still have to pay the fine, ive been there, what i would do is take pictures of ANOTHER tl and show those as if they are yours and see what happens let us know...

I thought that since it was a "fix it" ticket, you can get it taken care of in 24 hours, show proof and you won't have to pay. Proof from my understanding could be a receipt of the place charging you for tint removal. If you know anyone in the tint business, get them to write you up a receipt and throw them a case of beer in exchange. Then you submit it all and you should be good to go!

Much more important things to worry about in life. Just chalk it up to bad luck and the price to pay for looking good.

What percentage tint did you install? 20% or 15%?

wow some of this advise is retarded in this thread

you have 2 choices

1. Obey the law and remove the tint and then
a. leave it off
or
b. tint the car legally

OR

2. do a work a round and continue to run the risk of getting tickets. With the major budget shortfalls that may areas are facing, it is likely you will get more tickets.

Better off getting option #1

This just happend to me here in TN.To take the tint off would be around $200 and then I would still have to pay the $105 in court cost.I just paid the $220 tint ticket and was able to keep my tint. You pick $305 and no tint or pay $220 and keep it.

Umm... this is definitely my topic...

Pay it and forget about it. It's only $50-70 bux.

Next time when you are getting pulled over, at least be smart enough, turn on the interior lights and open the sunroof shade. And acquire some PBA cards.

To the others that say fool the judge with another picture... This does NOT work anymore.. Haven't worked in years. In Brooklyn, at least, they will send you to their recommended shop, and monitor the situation.

Remember, NO TINT IS A LEGAL TINT in the state of NY. You are not allowed to have any film period on your window glass. SUV and other vehicles without a hidden trunk may tint windows to prevent theft.

Ok the last thing you want to do is take a pic of your plate on another car to say your tint is off and then go to court and tell the judge you took it off. Reason why if the same cop sees you again with the tint it now becomes PERJURY. Im not johnny law myself but if the cop might want to be a dick and get you for that. BTW i thought u could have dark ass tint in NY?? Most cars in VA that have NY tags have 5-20%

I have 15% tints. The cop was telling me to just pay off the fine and keep it. BTW the reason why i got pulled over was because of the tints. When he had pulled me over, i rolled all my windows down. I did my research and the only legal tint in ny is, i dont exactly know the percentage but you can't even tell if you have tinted window. So why bother even tinting it in the first place. So what is the best route for going around this ticket issue? Take pictures and provide evidence (showing receipt saying it was removed) and plead not guilty or just plead guilty and pay the fine?

worst advice ever. if you do this you will be arrested and charged with perjury. you can go to jail and probably will if the judge doesnt like you

just pay the ticket and keep driving

Either take the tint out for life or think of it as parking ticket, just pay the fine and be done with it.

Btw, when I get pulled over I always roll all my windows down. Two reasons, 1. cops sees clearly 2. cuz of my tint.

Sometime they stop you for no reason and they might find a reason to give you a ticket.

PBA - Patrolman's Benevolent Association

It's a "I donate and am friends with the brother's in blue card"

It wont always get you off from a ticket but it could depending on how the police officer is feeling. Good advice is to keep it under your license so when you pull out your license your PBA card is exposed.. so the officer can see but you're not giving it to him expecting them to let you off. So it's a non arrogant way of saying "give me a break."

How many of you guys have this and how did you obtain it?

i dont think they give you pba cards if you donate anymore. i could be wrong but i never received a pba card, unless my parents hide it from me

i use to work in a hospital for a few weeks in january and i took care of a few cops and they came back and gave me (2)pba cards. PBA cards are pretty hard to get, the only way you will get one is if you take care of 1 in the hospital, or related so tell your sister to go find a cop.

but honestly, PBA cards dont mean dick to some cops, i showed a cop 2 pba cards and got assaulted, i think he thought i was trying to disrespect him

I got caught on an LIE onramp in NY (a blind curve! of all places.) He was standing right in the freakin MIDDLE of the lane!! People almost hit him, lol. This guy was purposely looking for plates/tint/cell phones for sure. He let other cars go and saw mine, smiled with that "GOTCHA" face and pointed me to the shoulder. I was real cool, not nervous at all and said "Hi, how are you officer?". He looks at my NYPD sticker, (I have PBAs etc. too.) and he says "How dark is your tint?" I said "30% officer.." He says "No front plate either, huh?" (He had a smirk like, I don't care about your NYPD etc. I am givin you a ticket!) "What state is this car registered in?" I said "Illinois sir." His face turns into a perplexed one now and he walks to the back to read my plate. He come back around and he's like "OK you can go ahead, take care."

AHAHAH! Bitches!!

FYI for any of the NYC/Long Island Aziners.. a PBA card doesn't mean shit in upstate NY... so if you do any traveling upstate at all be prepared for the possibility that it wont help you out of a ticket should you get pulled over.

also, I've been looking into getting my car tinted but I want to keep it legal so I don't have the hassle. anyway, NY changed their tint laws so its not even worth me getting my car tinted. 70% visible light transmission front AND back windows, what's the point of that?

PBA cards are not bought nor given thru charity. They must be obtained from cop who basically vouches for you.

I have best friends who are cops, so they give me PBA cards. Your name, and his name/phone number must be on the card. PBA cards are not get out of jail free cards, you need to be polite and ask for discretion/courtesy.

I have 35% tints, the lightest I ever had, and I do not get bothered by anyone, except in Staten Island, where cops there are bored to death.

This is your experience...why would you try to lead others into trouble they don't want to be in. If you were giving legal advices, I wouldn't care, but you're trying to tell people to break the law for a 50 dollar ticket. How fucking stupid is that? I hate the system myself, but paying 50 dollars opposed to hundreds or thousands in fines would be the smart thing to do. Breaking laws is for rebels who are spoiled by their parents. Your parents might bail you out of everything; some of us pay for our own shit. Keep that in mind next time you give advice, brother.
