Getting new keys made
Getting new keys made
I searched and didn't find any thread that good on this topic so.
Have any of you been able to get a new key made for a reasonable price?
My primary use key has worn down so much it no longer works so.
My local Acura dealer wants $250 ($100 for the OEM key and to cut it, and service $150 for programming the ECU for it).
I called my Honda dealer which used to charge a more reasonable $60 (my wife lost her Pilot keys once) to program the key but service checked and said no they can't do a Acura.
Once I have some free time at lunch I'm gonna call some local locksmiths to see if they can cut and program the car for a new key (blank Acura OEM keys are on Amazon for ~$20).

I bought it online from acuraoemparts.com (it took over a month to ship due to availability), but then I went to a local locksmith and had them cut AND program both #2 and the valet key for.. $80 I believe. Did this just earlier this year.
Thanks and I presume they programmed both keys to the car as well?
If your key is worn down, and your transponder in the key still works, then you can just swap it over to the new key to save on programming.
If you have a 2004-06, now might be a good time to upgrade to the switchblade style key as well.

This won't help you directly but if you are able to find a guy like this one, you will be all set. I used him once years ago and he was doing this as a side hustle. Having now just looked him up again, it looks like his business has grown but still a side hustle. He didn't have Honda / Acura keys at the time and when I explained that he was missing out on a large portion of the market he agreed and purchased a bunch of blanks. This meant I had to make a second trip to him, but it was all worth it. I upgraded my lost wife's Accord key to a sidewinder or flip style for $80 and it was done in all of 15 mins including programing to the car. Only exception or downside was waiting for him to get the blanks and having to make a second trip.
