Gap differences/other issues
Gap differences/other issues
Hey guys.
I currently drive a 2008 TL; bought it in december of 2007.
My question is, in recent months I've noticed a couple structural issues with the car - it has not been wrecked ever, so I know it isn't due to anything I've done.
The issues are one of my exhaust tips is slightly lower than the other - a small gap difference but I notice it. Also, on the hood of the car, there is a small gap difference between the left and right side (near the middle of each half of the hood). It's hard to describe unless I posted pics, but it's there. It's about an inch different on either side, if you were to draw a line in the exact middle of the hood, it's about the exact middle of each half (if that makes sense). I can put my finger in one side of gap, but not the other so I know it's there.
These things are not noticeable to most people but they are to me. Because it's now been almost 2 years, I doubt the dealer will do anything to fix it. Anyone else had this problem with body asymmetry?
Also, I was charged $70 in labor just for a "required 10 point safety inspection" that was done the last time I was in the dealership for an oil change. They also said it was due for my tires to be rotated and balanced. Some sort of different type of "service due soon" message displayed on my computer. A bit excessive, IMO.

I've never noticed those gaps on my 08 TL-S. Your car is still under warranty, have the dealership look at it.
You got ripped with the inspection. That is all it is too. You can do that yourself. Also do the oil change yourself, it's very easy.

If your car has never been wrecked those are likely things that can be adjusted yourself. The exhaust tips are fairly simple just get under the car loosen the two bolts that hold the muffler on the side you want to adjust and secure it where you want it.
Under the hood that is tweakable as well. You can start with the rubber stops just turn them to where you want the hood to rest. Adjust both sides to tweak it perfectly. If that doesnt fix it then something is messed up with the car. Are you 100% sure that all the body panels are original from the factory and havent been replaced maybe before you had it (even if the car was new sometimes cars get damaged in transit etc etc).
