Fuse help!

I hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew.

Anyway I went to Best Buy today and bought the X50 and a hardwire kit. The hardwire kit is very confusing and I'm not quite sure what to do. There are two wires, a black and a white one. At the end of both wires are a double pronged piece of metal that fastens into the fuse. However, I don't know which one is power and which one is ground. I DO know that the white wire has a cylinder in it that when opened reveals a glass tube with metal ends. I'm not sure if this means that is the power or ground. Anyway, I would appreciate some help. I need to figure out how to connect the prongs to the fusebox, which one on the left of the other one, and any other info. Thanks

The fuse is always in the power line, not the ground. So it would appear that the white is +, and the black -. In most home wiring, black is + (equated with death in the early days of domestic wiring). However, if what you are describing is not a fuse, then all bets are off, if in doubt, seek professional help. Also, find an electrician for your car.

Gale,

Look in here for the hardwire install. How much did you get the x50 for at retail?

I paid 299.99 for it. I know I could have gotten a better deal online but I didn't want to wait for shipping and the like.

Can someone explain what the ground wire does? I would have thought that it was used to complete the circuit but I guess I am wrong. I am now assuming that it is literally there to ground the power, however I am not sure what I connect it to. It looks just like the connector for the fuse.

Alright I did some research and figured out I have to connect the ground wire to the screw on the frame. I did that, attached the fuse to an open fuse in the fusebox, powered up the car, and it still doesn't work. I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow.

Ummm ... GaleForce: Why not let Best Buy professionally install it for only $20 - $25 and get a lifetime guarantee on the installation? I'm glad I did.

See my installation here.
