Full bolt on Type S vs G37S, CLK350, B7 S4
Hi,
Here is a couple of runs with a friend's TL. He is a member here on the forum, but I will leave his identity incognito. It depends on him whether he wants to reveal it.
(See first video)The first run of the night was with an S4. It was a highway run form about 50mph to 100. The very first run was not very coordinated, but the second one clearly proved that the TL was faster. The type s pulled approximately 1 and a half car lengths.
(Second Video)The second run of the night was against a 6MT CLK350 with an AMG exhaust. 50mph to 110 3+ cars on the CLK.
(No video ) The TLS vs the G37s was interesting. The G37 owner is also a forum member. I will leave his identity out as well. The G37 has a few bolt ons such a e/i/tt/tune/gears. They went up to 130mph and the G37s was inching forward but it was close. Sorry didnt take a vid. However, the TLS was basically right next to it, with the G37 slowly pulling but not really putting any serious distance.

OP: Your apology is unacceptable. You should've gotten a vid of the modded G37 vs. TL-s. Jk.
Looke like some good runs. Gawd I wish the G37 vs. TL-s would've been filmed. I thought the G37 would've pulled a little more on the TL-s. But then again I don't know the FULL mod list on the TL-s.

Side note: I had no idea the G37 was actually heavier than then TL-S!

^^ That's true but the TL-s only weighs like 100lbs less. It makes over 40hp less, but similar torque.
I'm surprised as well considering I've seen G37s trap 103-105 stock. Modded I'd assume at least 105-107, which no TL-s has seen N/A. However, not many TL-s' go to the track, otherwise I'm sure we would see high 13s stock with traps around 101-102. They make almost as much power with bolt ons/tune as the base TL does S/C. I see no reason why they couldn't trap 105. Did I just contradict myself?

Ehh, I don't know. The way I see it, there's only about a 1 mph and 20 whp average difference between the 6MT versions of the base and S. Considering the 75-80lb weight advantage of the base, the numbers makes sense. I think only one road test of the S broke 100 mph, with all the rest being basically 99.xx.
I think in order for an N/A Type-S to hit 105 mph without any radical weight reduction it would need all the standard bolt ons, induction porting, plus the J&R ecu, and the jury's still out on what the ecu provides in the real world anyway. Otherwise, with just the standard bolt ons, I'm gonna say 102-103 for the S.

but i gotta admit, i love my new WRX and its much faster . but the TL-S murders the WRX in luxury lol. i guess its a matter of preference. I just regret modding the TL-S since its gains are minimal lol unless its supercharged.

If no one wants to take their TL-s 6MT to the track, let me do it lol.

Before you criticize my first statement: the gearing in the S4 is much lower than that in the TL. At 70 MPH in sixth gear, I'm easily turning over 3,000 RPM. (hence the 17 MPG I average on the highway ). A TL-S with bolt ons is fast, but I can't see it beating an S4 with a competent driver. It wouldn't be a massacre, but an S4 should definitely pull a couple car lengths .
Good kills nonetheless - anything can happen on the street.

Agreed - bad driver. It honestly looks like he left it in fifth or even sixth gear - had the car been in third it would have be loud as hell, even stock. A 340hp 4.2L V8 screaming along at 7,000 RPM is NOT quiet, especially in B7 guise.

but you are right, a kill is a kill.

True, but you didn't factor in torque. It easily makes 25-30lb-ft more of torque than the base which should offset the weight and then some. There was 1 TL-s that went to the track stock on this site, and I believe it ran 14.0x and trapped 101.x a few times.
If no one wants to take their TL-s 6MT to the track, let me do it lol.

Depending on the Audi's transmission, it's 150-230 lbs heavier than a stock 6MT Type-S, which is pretty significant!

That same TL-S trapped 103 BEFORE the owner did a LTW pulley and exhaust! Moreover, this was his first track day. He had never run any 1/4 mile before, besides traffic light to traffic light race once a blue moon. Hence, this particular TL probably traps close to 105 in ideal conditions. The G37S I am pretty sure is capable of more esp with 4.10's.
#25
103 before? That's pretty good! So I'm assuming that's with I/PCDs/Jpipe.
I don't remember exactly how the S4 fared, but I don't think it would've pulled. From what I've seen, they trap anywhere from 101-103 stock. So if the TL-s pulled slightly, it makes sense.

Are we talking 2nd gen G37 coupe or G37 sedan? For various reasons, the G37 coupe is quite a bit slower than the sedan. On average, the G37 coupe is about 120lbs heavier than the G37 sedan and about 180lbs heavier than the 2nd gen G35 sedan. Then consider that most G37s have 19" rims and big brake kits which all impact acceleration. Coupes seem to be stuck solidly in the 13.9-14.0 range which is only fractionally quicker than the 1st gen coupe. G37 sedans are in the 13.6-13.7 range. Stock of course. Even the 2nd gen G35 sedan is quicker than the G37 coupe. Go figure.

The tl-s is pretty underestimated, especially the auto. I went 14.1@99 with just a aem v2. However I must admit the paddle shifters Must Be used otherwise it will shift out of vtech leaving it I'n auto. Ran 14.45 best leaving it in just auto. I've been to the track a few times, front wheel drive is NOT the best for drag racing, I've raced quite a few cars on the hwy, dodge Charger srt, older 4.6 stangs, 350z, even a gto (don't know what engine think it's was the smaller version) and all these cars have either been a win/loss/dead even races, but very close! So I love the car! Jack of all trades master of none!
Well there was that 03 cobra I decided to play with that one night....... Yeah..... I was left like I was standing still lmao!

Lol! I'm in Texas actually, I would love to try even tho it sounds like I'm going to lose. But its always fun! Well you lr pretty acurrate, I did beat the gto to like 85 but it wasn't by much and I reacted better than he (street) the charger was dead even race to like 100(hwy) but I may me incorrect to say that is was an srt8 because that has the 6.1 right? Had to be a 5.7 then yeah I beat quite a few 4.6 stangs at the track, lost to others but they where all close races. If I had the $ I'd go all out with pcd, exh, j pipe etc. I'm sure at the drag strip it would go at least 13.8 (guess) with good air. The 14.1 run was like in 40deg Weather so I'd have to go back then.

Hey Mr600r: do you own a TL-S auto or 6MT?
14.1 @ 99MPH with just CAI for the auto if that is the case really caught my eye!!
I am guessing your a 6MT though with that time.

No sir auto all the way! But again if you want the best ET from your car is in cold weather they run the best! If you have an auto use you paddle shifters makes a 2 to 3 tenth difference!

Nice, what part or Texas? Sounds like you have a really strong running car!

You are right with using the paddle shifters. Even with my Accord V6 auto you have to manually shift to get the fastest times. If you leave it in D5 at full throttle the ECU upshifts the tranny before redline. What was your 60ft and 1/8th mile ET and MPH on that 14.1 run?
#38
That is awesome to hear man!!! That is the fastest TL-S auto period! Some 6MT members have trouble hitting that time! Great run. Very impressed

1/8 9.203
Mph 77.68
1/4 14.196
Mph 99.53
So I only did this pass once (barely lol)
The rest where 14.2 and 14.3

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, but i have so many dam toys I'm working on can't afford it all, but some day I will maybe if I don't end up with 2010 tl lol, but I love this model year alot over the newer one, he'll even with 92k runs like new! The newer one has better handling but acceleration wise it's about even. Someday tho!
