Fresh air vent only

Please forgive my ignorance but, how can I turn on the fresh air vent only??? It seems that whatever I choose, the compressor is always running or the heat is on. I only want fresh air at outside temperature. What am I doing wrong?

Turn the temp down and turn off the A/C

My owners manual says on page 121
"Ventilation
1. set the temperature to maximum.
2. Make sure the A/C is off.
3. Select (symbol of person sitting with arrow pointing at head) and fresh air mode.
4. Set the fan to the desired speed."

Now, when I set the temp to maximum, heated air comes out...Not what I want.
If I drop the temp, the compressor runs and I get cold air like the A/C is on.
I don't get it. How can I set the temp to maximum and not get super heated air?

Press the A/C button. The display will change to A/C OFF, and then you will only get outside air without using the compressor. The temperature controls will still work and try to maintain the temperature you set, unless you set it too low and without the compressor the system cannot get that temperature for you.

To go back to automatic, press the AUTO button.

Edit add: The manual is wrong where it says to set it to maximum. Just set the temperature to where you want it to be, as I said above.

I figured that the manual was wrong about the ventilation because it states that "when you select (window with upward arrows), the system automatically switches to fresh air mode and turns on the A/C." But, it says to turn on the fresh air mode for ventilation.

Thanks for the input, i'll give it a try. I guess this is not the only incorrect info in the owners manual as the MID reset description was also wrong.

You must have an '05 model. My "other" TL is an 05 and it has the same error in the owner's manual. This is an error. My '04 model has the correct info in the manual.

Now, turn off the A/C, set the recirculate to outside air, set the MODE to dash vents only, set the temperature to "Lo", set the fan speed to whatever you like, turn off Dual. That's it.
