Flush and fill tranny fluid
could easily DIY with the right tools. i don't let anyone touch my car unless i absolutely can't perform the work myself. which luckilly hasn't happened yet.
do you know a trusted indy mechanic? i would go to someone you know rather than a big boy shop.

There is a great DIY on the forum that may help encourage you to try it yourself. I never changed any vehicle fluids till I got my TL and the DIY surely made me try it. Be patient and don't rush.
As far as costs, since you don't have any tools you would have to invest in some, but if you plan on changing fluids yourself, you will easily recoup your costs.

Valvoline could easily handle this, unless you have an oil jet mod blocking the fill plug and hole (2004). This issue is the fluid that they put in. Would they let you bring your own, or use a high quality fluid?
I believe we're never suppose to do a tranny flush on our cars. You need to do a drain and refill...(3 times with 3 quarts each time). Search the fourm for 3x3 tranny. You'll find a lot of good information on it.

If you do DIY which is a very easy task, make sure that you break loose the fill plug before you drain your fluid. You do not want to end up with a vehicle that has had the fluid drained but you cannot get the fill plug off! Emergency fill thru the dipstick is not fun.
Good catch... yes, you need to drain and refill, not flush. It is actually easier than changing oil because there is no filter. Drain and refill with 3 quarts. I would see if they have Redline D4, AMSOil ATF or will use Mobil 1 Synthetic Dex/Merc.
Whatever method you pick. You will need some type of breaker bar (make shift or legit), a socket set, flat head screw driver. And you are set. I have a video that I made on youtube from being to end which I can post but if you search under my name + transmission you will find it.
Actually, you can remove the jet oil tube and it is probably easier than having to use a breaker bar to get the fill plug out (I have done both), you just remove 1 bolt securing the tube and pull it up and out of the transmission where the fill plug is typically located.
i just had the dealer do it using the 3x3 method. $230.
not only was it expensive, but it was a bitch trying to describe exactly how I wanted it done. I had to show them the owners manual where is states how to do it properly. afterwards i checked and the fluid is very clear now. dealer had the car for about 3.5 hours, but they were very busy. If i had a place to do this, i would do it.
