Fitting a pedal bike in the TL

Just wondering if anyone managed to do that? I just tried putting my Trek in there with no luck. Looks as if the rear seats do not fold down.

Guess I need a bike rack =`( Does anyone on here have a bike rack? if so do you like it and has it scratched up the car at all?

Thanks

I have a Trek and the only way was to take off the front wheel. You run the risk of damaging your interior. Ended up getting a Yakima roof rack. Mounts to the sills on top of the doors with rubber against the car so it doesnt scratch...saves time and keeps your backseat clean. ...

I was able to fit either my road or tri bike in the trunk. I had to remove both wheels, and with the drivetrain side up, put the rear dropouts in far right corner and the handlebars toward the front left corner.

This was one of the checks I had to do prior to purchasing.

I removed both front and rear wheels. Only way I would have been able to fit the bike is if I were to remove the forks.

I WILL NOT place a pedal bike on leather seats. that is not an option.
I wouldnt mind finding a trunk mount bike rack. I hate the idea of having a roof rack.
seems like a pain. then again I've never used either so what do I know.

My suggestion would be getting a trunk bike rack and putting it on over a towel...

I've had a trunk mount on an earlier car and I like the roof better. It does take away from the cars looks but taking the trunk mount on and off all the time is a pain. If you want pix let me know...

If you dont mind.

I dont mind taking it on and off all that much since I do most of my riding here at home. however every few weeks maybe even once a month I want the option to take my bike somewhere.

I put 'em on my roof with my yakima roof racks. They lock to the roof and lock the bikes to the rack. The sunroof still works, as long as you like the wind noise, and you can travel at any speed.

Just don't forget about them when you pull into the garage...I've actually heard stories...ouch!

As an avid triathlete I was in the same dilemma. I didn't really want the roof rack as I think it takes away from the looks of the TL. I did a few races and taking off both wheels and placing the bike in the trunk with those long aero bars is a royal pain in the rear. Then when I got to the race site.....breaking my back to put the rear wheel back on the bike in the pitch dark at 5:30am was getting old. Especially on a rear disk wheel where the wheel never wants to go back on easily and my hands ended up being covered in grease. Nothing like clearing your goggles with bike grease laddened fingers. I went with the Saris Bones trunk rack 801 which carries up to 3 bikes. Fits the TL perfectly due to it's wide array of adjusability. Really great if you have the rear wing spoiler, which I don't but would easily clear it. Other TL's I see at races have trunk racks. Yet to see one with a roof rack yet.
