Question Final Say on 6MT Tranny Fill

Hi Everyone,

I've got a '04 SSM 6MT that runs really well.
After getting a 2 day TSX loaner with a 5AT I can't understand
why anyone would purchase a TL with an automatic, but to each
his / her own.

Anyhow, its time to change the manual tranny fluid again - has anyone
found the new improved Honda / Acura fill to be better than the GM Friction
Modified?

Thanks,
TL-Rocket

Others have stated the new Honda fill will temporarily alleviate the 3rd gear issue. I switched to the GM friction modified at 3900 miles prior to having any issues (did not want any either) with the factory fill. I switched due to all the positive reviews about the GM friction modified and the gearbox box is and has been smooth as butter since. Here is another link I found while searching for “6MT friction modified"

Mine actually did get better. Not perfect, but better. Its looking like the only way to fully get rid of the 3rg gear issue is to go with the GM fluid...

Drain and refill with "improved" Honda MTF -got worse for me although most other reported it got better.
Drain and refill with GM Synchromesh Friction Modified - NOT ONE 3RD GEAR ISSUE SINCE!!! It was nothing short of amazing. Just as all other's trying it have reported."

Hard to see how this could get more definitive! My personal experience with the GM fluid has been exactly the same.

Definitely 100% GM!!! I was having 3rd gear issues with my TL-S and it only has 11k miles (which is actuallya lot for an S) and it was going hard into third a lot. I have the comptech SS, aluminum shifter bushings and now GM fluid and all I can say is it is the best feeling transmission I have ever shifted. Worlds different than stock. For 34 bucks please please do it, you will not regret it at all.

I drained and refilled with the new and improved Honda MTF and the shifting is smoother, especially in cold temps (almost -30 celcius here!). I don't have any issues with the 3rd gear grind so I don't see the need to go to the GM fluid as of now.

I have read dozens of the threads on this in the past. What is the final word today 1/29/07 about the GM fluid, I know it makes the Acura tranny shift smoother but what are the long term effects if any? Will it affect the Acura seals? The sinkros?

The dealer finally change my MTF w/ '07 MTF and it seem to help.

With the many hundreds (thousands?) of people who read and post on Acurazine, I think that if there was any chance of damage to the, er, "sinkros," or other transmission components we would have heard something by now! By the way, my Acura dealer put in the GM-FM at my request without any push-back.
