extended warranties after the purchase

Just a quick ? I was told by the Stealer (dealer) that you cant purchase an extended warranty on a used car even if its still an 04 unless it is an Acura Certified used car. Does anybody know anything about this thanks

Exclamation

ok, rescueswimmer was asking if anyone could get used 04TL (not the certified 04TL) and successfully purchase the EW. So far purchasing the used car (04TL) directly from the seller is apparently unable to get the EW from any dealer.

But, if the orignal owner (seller) buys the EW before selling to you, you (transferee) would be entitled to that EW when purchasing that car. Within 15 days, you two can go to the original dealer (who sold the EW) and pay $50, then complete the copy of your maintenance records, ownership evidence, and odometer reading.

Furthermore, the transferee may not transfer this contract to a subsequent purchaser of this vehicle in the future, which means this EW is one-time transferrable only. (However, I think the transferee is still able to cancel this EW right before 60 days of effective date of EW, and get money back -- this has to ask the dealer. I'm not sure.)

(I had no chance to review the dealer info until tonight... :o)

Rets your the man! If it came down to it I would have a the owner buy the extended warranty and then transfer it to me. I was trying to avoid that since, who knows I may sell the car before the warranty is up and that is a nice feature to list. Thanks again for your info

Interesting... I was wondering about this too. Here's a slightly different spin...

If I buy an 05 TL, can I wait a couple of years before I buy the EW from the dealer? And can I get it from any Acura dealer?

I've bought a DC extended warranty on a 2.5 year old truck from a Dodge dealer over the internet (cheaper than a local guy) without problems.

All I know is based on the info my dealer sent to me... :o

Yes. You are supposedly able to buy EW anytime before your 48month/50kmiles expires. But, if you buy it later than your first register day, you could have to pay the certain amount of surcharge, based on the dealer you purchase from. Closer to the end of original warranty you have to pay more surcharge, most of dealers like to do so.
