Extend or not?

I am at 49,500 mi on my original warranty in my '04 TL 5AT non NAVI.
Should I extend my warranty? $1600 and I have used the original warranty for sure.

Shop around the internet and other dealers... you should be able to get it for cheaper and it doesn't matter which Acura dealer you buy the warranty through.

I'm in the same exact situation. Same car, same mileage.

One concern, the sample contract I found online repeatedly mentions "You must perform maintenance services, at the proper intervals" and "Failure to do so may result in the denial of coverage..."

I've done most maintenance services, and kept all reciepts, but I think I skipped something they recommended around 20,000 miles. For people who have actually used the extended warranty (especially ones bought online), are the service centers real strict about enforcing this policy? Or do they treat it pretty similar to the standard warranty?

Thanks.

original warranty
about 5 visits for rattles/creaks - put foam, tightened stuff down, new speaker grill, rear deck around sub, headliner
bluetooth problems (replaced something)
check engine light would flash and then sometimes light when car was new and revving above 5k - cpu reprogram
mirrors would not always perform smooth auto down in reverse, would catch and sometimes bind up - replaced both side mirrors
blown fuses a time or two, but they didn't fix anything, just replaced the fuses
couple other things I don't recall off hand

I am in the same dilemma too...I am still at 45K though....but then I am also contemplating, how long I will be keeping this car so...

Do you think spending close $1200 on extended warranty will increase my resale value significantly (even $800 or so) If I lets say decide to sell it by the end of the year at about 55K or so.?

My sales guy told me that I can transfer the warranty, and yes I think it would increase the value, and also cancel it for a refund of the unsed portion (pro rata i guess). SO, I am a bit inclined to do it for the peace of mind. However, I wanted to get some good input before I choose!

Without the Navi I would have to think about it long and hard. I would also check exactly what the coverage is for. Also, how long are you keeping the cars.

Yes they will refund a portion if you sell but how big a portion? On the MT I doubt that they will cover that expensive clutch as its a wear item. On the automatic, if you fight, they will likely cover it with or without up to about 100k. Engine failure is unlikely up to about 200k if you are taking care of it. If not, they will claim abuse and not cover it anyway. Just my $.02.

The timing belt at 75-100K replacement will cost $500-$700 and is not covered.

yeah, I take good care of the engine. I guess it is the fact of all of the electronics that are there and the amount of use on warranty so far. Also, to add to the value, they will tow your car if breaks on the road and fix it at the nearest dealer i believe (they don't seem to like independents).
Then, to top it off, it is my wife that drives this one, on the road 2x a week, and as I mentioned, it kinda gives some peace of mind.
To top it off I am pretty capable mechanically, just not sure if I want that responsibility if something critical happens, where with the warranty, I get the good ole TSX for a loaner.
decisions decisions

I paid for my 07' TL-S $1,800 10 Year/120K mile warranty w/ $0 deductible from Acura. (Told them that price w/o that stupid $100 deductible or I wouldn't take)

You don't need to do that. Go to www.acuraoemparts.com and get your extended warranty from there. It's hella cheaper and you can get your dealer to price-match it, or just buy it from them. I got my dealer to price-match it when I got my car.

One reason, however, that your offer for the extended warranty was so high was because you waited so long to do it. The earlier that you do it after you buy the car, the cheaper it is. True story!
