Engine Whinning

I am taking my wife and 1 month old daughter to Children's Hospital in the morning and just started noticing a whinning noise when I am driving. It changes pitch with the speed of the engine. I can put it in neutral and hear it as well when I rev it up. Acura can't get me in till Thursday.

1. Should I be concerned and not take it?
2. What could it be?

Thanks in advance for the help...the service dept. certainly wasn't.

I heard the whinning recently too, it sounded like sirens at first to me, off in the distance. But only when I really got on the car, and I mean really get on it... stuff you DON'T do on the road

I have that sound too. Don't know if it's bad or not, but I think I like it. Sounds like a turbo whine but at low speed/RPM.

Often times a whining noise that increases with engine speed is an exposed wire (usually a stereo wire) that is close to a rotating part such as the driveline.

I know that sound, mine is coming from outside, not the speakers

Are you guys sure it's coming from the engine and not the transmission or differential? I think mine might be making the same noise but it seems to be coming from one of the latter (I have a 5AT). Personally I think its normal and nothing to get uptight about.

the whining sound i hear is the tranny when the car is coming to a stop. i had a 02 tl-s and it made the same sound. being that this car is more quiet i think we hear more sounds. i think it's normal

I have a 5AT. I have ruled out the tranny. When you put it in neutral and rev the engine it does it. I have ruled out the speakers. I am almost 100% its the engine. Yeah I like to, but I can see how I would grow to not like it after a while.

are you sure it wasn't the wife whining? hehehehe j/k from my experience with my other cars this happens when a stereo wire hasn't been properly grounded or poorly shield electrical wires have been used. the interence will cause the speakers to whine.
