Engine Block Heater
I can't speak for it from a TL perspective (don't own one yet), but being from Detroit originally, I have a lot of experience using engine block heaters. I have owned all Fords previously, and they have always offered a factory-installed block heater as an option. All I can say is, that is the best $59 you will ever spend. Just run an extension cord from your garage or wherever, and leave the plug for the block heater accessible in such a way that you don't have to open the hood every night to plug it in during the winter time. You can leave it plugged in all night, it has a thermostat so it won't overheat your engine or anything like that. Go out to start your car in the morning in -20 deg, you can feel the heat on the top of the motor. You will have heat coming out the vents within the first mile! Good stuff.
BTW rets, you can't really remove/install it...well you could...but you wouldn't want to, nor do you need to. In the summer time just cap the plug and stow it (the cord) up out of the way in the engine compartment.

Thanks for explanation. It's kind of hard for ppl not living where below -20 all winter to think of how this block heater stuff works. Originally I thought it's only the "BLOCK" putting in front of the engine or radiator... as you said, $59 seems to be the good deal. :o
I was just thinking of having it installed if nothing else just for saving the engine a little bit on these single digit mornings we've been having lately. Granted we don’t get -20 below, but for the price I think is a no-brainer...

I couldn’t find install directions for the new TL, but i found some for an '03 RSX. Now I'm sure that the install is somewhat similar, but I know for sure that the RSX instructions were not showing any body modifications.
The RSX install was pretty much draining the radiator core, pulling off this "heater plug place holder" in the engine bock. More engine coolant comes out at this point. Installing the Acura engine block heater, attaching OEM plug to the heater and routing the 120v plug to front (in a nutshell).

It's been over 20 years since I lived anywhere a block heater would be necessary, but here's my advice...
"Get it now"
Best $59 you'll ever spend. If you've ever listening to a cold engine block heating up from 0 degrees and below, you'll buy it without hesitation.

I probably won’t either, I just want to see what's involved with installing those items. For example on the installation of the block heater. I think I'll tell them to NOT cut out a small piece in the front grille portion. I'd rather reach under the car to plug it in, then to have it prominently on display all year.
For 8 years I have lived in MN and WI as you know it doesnt get much colder than that. I have had 3 cars with block heaters. I have used the device a total of one time, to start my civic in Jan. after sitting out in 0 or less weather for 30 days. If your car is garaged you'll never need it. If it sleeps outdoors for a couple of days you might use it. IMO people that have garages up here have no use for it.
