Ebay Custom Grill DIY.

here it is guys! this is a DIY thread for the grill sold on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Acura...#ht_3003wt_976 . the grill is made in hong kong. if you do the job corectly then the fitment should be just right. i did it all in under 2hrs.
becareful with hacksaw.
good luck.

2 piece product from ebay

1. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER
2. REMOVE CENTER PIECE and emblem FROM GRILL ( screws )
3. CUT OUT CENTER BAR behind emblem ( hacksaw )

4. either sand down the edges or just hacksaw it off more.

5. PUT BUMPER BACK ON

6. BY NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE REMOVED ALL THESE PARTS

7. NOW YOU NEED TO DRILL A HOLE ON EACH SIDE .( THERE ARE MARKINGS)

THESE ARE THE DRILL BITS I USED

I USED SAME CLIPS AS ORIGINAL GRILL

8. JB WELD THE BOTTOM AND YOUR DONE!!!

I WILL POST BETTER PICS TOMORROW IN THE DAYLIGHT.

Whoops, shoulda read the ebay site before posting. Couldn't you just tape it instead of JB weld?

Looks pretty good actually. What's with that opening on top just to the left of the center of the grill?

That's for the hook of the hood. If you notice, the hook/hinge thing goes down into the grille. If it is straight--the hood will not close and secure properly.

NICE!!! Thanks so much for the effort with the DIY it is much appreciated! Looks good man. If you did that in 2 hrs. you don't want to know how long it took me to do the custom job on my car!!

So how is the quality of materials? The description says it is made of fiberglass but it looks more like it is plastic to me. So the grille fits OVER the parts you cut right? I thought there would have to be a lot more cutting. Are the clips from the thin side grille pieces used? It is only held by the push tabs on top and JB weld underneath? How sturdy/stable is it?

material is of good quality. it goes right over the parts i cut out. and yeah the jb weld is on the bottom so it is stuck to the bumper. but only clipped at the top so i can still remove it. i removed the thin side grill piece. but you could leave it on. for me it was easier to remove it and provided more room for the grill to lay on top w/o sticking out. seems sturdy, might have to add more JB weld. well test it out at higher speeds tomorrow.

i forgot to take pics of the back but it looked like it had some scuffs around the mesh part. probably do to when they put in the mesh. and the mesh is held on tight by wire prongs. all is not noticeable from front.

The grille is sure to fit over the cut parts of the bumper. I assume you have to cut the 'bump' so it's flush with the rest of the grille-area. Which I also assume you did anyway with the DIY mesh grille. So you should be good to go Rocky. I think this should be A LOT easier for you to wrap in CF sheets as well.

In the pics the hood release indent seems pronounced. I hope it's just the angle/lighting of the picture. In reality it probably isn't that visible right? I had to cut, and put trim around that area likewise. It don't know if it is more or less conspicuous as yours.

after lookin at it today. i probably could have done a better job welding it to the bottom. if you look closely you can see that the left part of the the grill (rt side of pic) has a little space at the bottom. but not that noticeable from a cpl of feet away.

hope you all like it. i sure do. mesh matches lower bumper mesh. one of a kind in my city.

if i do paint it it will be a darker black.

here are daytime pics

Overall I like the look of it. The only thing I'm not sure about is the gap at the top. Not the section where the hood latch is, that's alright, but how the top seems to dip towards the center. If it followed the hood better and just had the bump out for the latch it would look a lot better. Like you said though, you probably can't see it when just standing in front of it, I'm just anal about fitment on things like this. Good job on taking the reigns on this mod. I really like this style of grille for our cars.

I agree...it actually just looks like you need to push the sides and snap the piece into place.
I know thats not the case..but it just doesnt seem like it fits right.

You may also want to post before and after pics. One of your TL with old grill and then new grill. Nice DIY. Looks nice except the notch for the hood latch is a bit low IMO. But I like the open look.......
