it happened twice in the first 2000 miles. After that, never again. I believe others have stated this problem when the car was under 1500 miles. How many miles do you have ?

Refer to this thread, or the TL Garage for more info.

Please refer to the link given above. It is related to keeping the emissions low. All TL's are affected by this "problem". Some have experienced it, some have not. It does not have to do with the miles on the car (as far as I know).

This is mentioned in the quick-start guide (which I don't have with me at the moment). It says something to the affect "Sometimes it may take longer to start because of the emissions system". Is it starting and then stalling?

My car has done this once -- it cranked much longer than I expected, and I'm betting if I had stopped cranking it wouldn't have started.

Not sure if it says it in the garage section, but if you turn the key to the ON position (when all electric is on and gauges go up) and wait till the beeping stops, you should have no problem starting it. It almost has to charge up it seems. It has to do with emissions and the high standards Acura has met with this car. If you have ever seen the exhaust when a truck starts up, you understand.

This happens to the first gen TL as well, except for us it's actually a starter problem. Mine was replaced (luckily) by the previous owners, and it still feels like it has problems starting, but that's just me being stupid. I realized that once it cranks for a short time, if I release the key it will start. If I keep holding down the key it will keep cranking until it starts, which seems really harsh. I dunno if this is the same way the 3rd gen TL starts. Just putting in some cross-generational info

For those too lazy to read the other thread or their manual:
Automobile engines produce the most pollutants when they are started. In order to minimize this, Honda did some stuff I'm too stupid to understand. But the end result is that sometimes the car won't start right away.
It is just a result of trying to keep emissions low - ULEV II.

THe TL is a ULEV vehicle. This is normal, in the manual, dealer knows about it. It keeps it clean -- nothing to worry about.

My advice is to get some good ground wires.

My advice would be, "Don't waste your money on snake oil."

mio - Do your gasoline companies reformulate your gas during the year to reduce emissions? They do in my area, and in many other locations in the 'States. Our winter fuel mixture is different than our summer mixture. That could be why the dealer claimed the summer/winter difference.

Another possibility could be what everyone else has claimed - that this is part of the ULEV-2 design. As the outside temperature gets colder, cars normally produce more pollution until the engine has warmed up to it's normal operating temperature. Honda's modifications to reach ULEV-2 may have the occasional side effect of having the car miss on starting. Well, worth the small inconvenience, IMHO.

I personally have only had it occur once in 13,000 miles. I also live in a warm climate throughout the year.

My advice would be: If you are seeing this occur once a month, don't worry about it. If you are seeing this occur multiple times a week, you should bug the dealer and have them connect up the car diagnostic system to see if any error codes are being registered.
