DIY Oil Change
I take mine to the dealer, OEM oil filter and mobile 1 5w-30 full synthetic. I'm getting charged $2 for a rubber o ring that goes on the oil pan plug every time. Is there a such thing? I may end up doing my own when I move into a new place with a flat driveway.

Redline 5w-30 with a Royal Purple filter in the s-2000 size if you want the absolute best protection.
I would post the reasons why this combo is the best but I'm tired from the other 50 oil/filter threads.
No reason to run a 5w-20 unless you live in an extremely cold area. The switch to 20wts was done for fuel economy only and even the CAFE tests showed no more than .5mpg. This is especially true with a car that sees lots of highway use.
Mobil One "fully synthetic" is not a synthetic, it's a grpIII highly refined dino oil. It's a very good oil but the marketing and advertising team should be millionares by now. Everytime I hear "fully synthetic" it's in reference to an oil that's not even synthetic.
If you want a good Mobil One oil, the 5w-30 EP is great and it's "fully synthetic". Their 0w-40 is an excellent syn too.

There's an aluminum washer that you're supposed to change each time. I've never changed mine and I've done about 20 oil changes and it's never leaked.
damn I didnt know Mobil 1 wasnt really full synthetic, Ive been blowing money on oil changes with it for years without knowing what I was using. That kinda pisses me off. I might spend some extra $$$ and switch to redline next time, hell I just spent $110 on atf from redline whats another $50 for oil too...
How long do you go between changes with the redline synthetic?

I might as well go with Redline and just do oil filter change between oil changes .
I read on Edmonds that we change oil to often anyways.
I use Puralator filters by the way.
Oil filter location is fantastic on these cars, beats the hell out of the filter being up on the rear side of the motor on my 2.2CL and accord I had. I don't even have to get my back dirty on the TL climbing under it.
so with this talk about just having to change out the filter when do you change the filter and when do you change the oil. This will be my first oil change sinch buying the car(CPO 07 TLS) and the oil life is reading 30%
What type of oil to you intend to run?
I hate cars, would you recommend using Red Line 5w-30 over 5w-20 even though i live in New Jersey/New York...I also changed the transmisson fluid to Redline Racing as you know and was amazed. A while ago i even tried there fuel injector cleaner and loved that one too
Im kinda hooked on Red Line... wanna start with their engine oil as well.

Im kinda hooked on Red Line... wanna start with their engine oil as well.Just remember, the first one or two changes will get dark quickly but after that it will go to normal.
well i wanted to do it tomorrow and from the looks of it i might go with redline. But if im not able to get a hold of some tomorrow ill just order it and do it when it gets here. I havent looked through the manual but how low do you guys let the oil life percentage get to before you change it?
Loosen the old filter just enough to where you can finish removing it by hand. Then take a 1-gallon heavy duty ZipLock freezer bag and completely cover the filter with it and pull it up over the pickup arm some. Now finish removing the old filter. The residual oil that would have spilled out of the engine onto your driveway, your suspension arm, and you will be contained within the ZipLock bag for a clean disposal.
I live three miles from the first line of mountains in the Appalachian Mountain chain so I just take the old oil up to some mountain creek or hole and pour it in.
(heh, heh)
I collect my used oil in 5-gallon gas cans and take it to a recycle location about 5 miles from my house.

Honestly, with regular oil and filter changes, you'll be fine with any oil/filter combination with today's quality and technology. DINO, part-syn, full syn, doesn't really make any difference for the average joe. If you track, drive extremely hard, or drive in extreme heat/cold year round, you MIGHT benefit from the fully syn oils.
I just get a 5 qt jug of M1 5-20 at WallyWorld for $23. Hard to beat. I bought a 6-pack of PureOne filters on Amazon.com for about $25 that will last me 3 years.

Your dealer is ripping you off. I'd go back and demand a refund. Yeah, I'm big on principle. For future reference if you do your own change, you can get these even cheaper at a Honda dealer. I picked up 6 for under $1 at my local Honda dealer. As mentioned earlier, many folks don't replace the washer and have no problems. Really, as long as the washer isn't damaged and the proper torque is applied to the drain plug (19ft-lb)(i.e not over torqued), a washer should last a long time. For me, I choose to spend $0.15..
Here's a little hint for you since you're new to this.

I have been cutting open a empty two liter soda bottle holding that up over the filter and using that to catch the filter and oil.
Picking up 6 more PureOne filters at Advance Auto. $5 each, using coupon code for $10 off, so each filter is $3.33 each. The problem I've had is finding a local Advance Auto that has enough in stock for pickup.
