Disappointed with my Tint Choice!

I just got my tints done on my TL, this is my first car with a light interior as all of my previous cars had black interiors. My usual setup I go with is 20% on the rear glass and 35% on the side windows but since this was a lighter interior car I decided to go with 30% on the sides. Well halfway through the install Job, it turned out too light so I had him rip the 20% off the rear and replace it with 15% which alleviated some of the problem and then I told him to leave the sides with 30's.

Now my sides look too light and I feel like I wasted money and there isn't a nice blend between the back window and side windows. I am thinking about getting my front windshield tinted with a 35% and I dont know if that will solve my problems or else now I will have to pay to get it re-done, just the sides. Maybe someone has input?

PEOPLE WHO HAVE DARK INTERIORS I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!! THE BEST COMBO IS 20% ON THE REAR GLASS AND 35% ON THE SIDES OR 30% IF YOU WANT SLIGHTLY DARKER. AND NO, THE DIFFERENT SHADES WILL NOT BE NOTICEABLE AT ALL TRUST ME!!

PEOPLE WITH LIGHT INTERIORS I HAVE NO CLUE YET!!

In many states 20% is illegal for the side windows. I think the most I can do here in Kentucky is 20% on the back, 30-35% on the sides. I have a recently purchased silver 06 with black leather interior. I was going to tint the windows soon (or this Spring)....mainly because I want to keep my black leather seats from burning my legs off.

i had 20% on my old CL with tan interior and it was perfect. i have 35% on my TL with ebony and it is a TAD light. I wish i went a little darker.....like a 27%, but they don't make it. any darker, i will attract unwanted attention.....any lighter would be useless.

On both my black Passat ( beige ) and the WDP TL ( Parchment ) I went my standard 35% fronts & 20% the rest and is just fine .. on a bright sunny day with the sun at the front you can notice the difference .. must depend on the tint.

Going too dark will get you busted and to me looks too Ghetto.

Hmmm...I'm getting a tint job next week. I have an 06 NBP/Ebony. I was thinking of doing the back 20% and the sides 30%. What do you guys think? 20% all around has a nicer look or the one I just said? I'm in MD where the sides are supposed to be no more than 35%, but I drove my 03 TL-S for a year with no prob (installed after I had it inspected). That had parchment though, that's why I went with 20% on that. I never had dark interior before. Please weigh in.

20% all around. my friend has 20 all around in maryland and hes fine. as long as your not an idiot you will be fine. tint tickets(at least in PA ) are only fines not points.

Here in FL you can legally go 28% front and 15% rears.

I had 15% all the way around in my Tahoe for over two years with no incident, so I decided I'd do the same on my TL.

With the parchment interior it does look lighter, but a good look overall.

I live here in FL as well, although 20% might be illegal on the sides as long as you dont drive erratic or attract too much attention you should be good to go.

Lemme think? Am I an idiot? Hmm...Doh!...I know I know the answer to this one! If I can just think of it!... LOL!

Thanks dude! 35 is way too light for me. But I thought driving with the 20 was a bit much (vision) when I had it. I always park backing up, and that was a bitch at night! I will go with the middle ground - 30%. Try that out for size. Should give me best of both worlds. Nice look, but not ghetto! I do want to be seen!

I like it. Not too dark and not too light.

you should go with 20% on the back and rear and 35% on the front, as long as there is a contrast most people will think that you have nothing on the front.

20% rear 35% on the side... perfect for dark interior to keep it clean and classy not "ghetto'd" up.

I'm starting to think that 35% on the sides and 20% on the rear is the best route. By my interior being black, it may look classy and cool!

Had 35% on the sides and 20% on the back on my old car. (legal for CT) At first I thought it was OK but once I got used to it I regretted not going darker even if it was illegal. I see cars all the time with 20% all around. I'm planning to do the same with my TL and cross my fingers I don't get caught here in IL. (where tint on any window except the rear is pretty much illegal.)

Yup, classy and best route for dark interior cars is 20% on the Rear and 35% on all sides, or 30% on all sides for a slightly darker look. It prevents ghettoness.

Whatever you choose, be aware that the windows come from the factory with 75% (as measured with a police tint meter). You must factor that in with the tint that you apply.

I am at the Florida limit and I am happy with the UV protection and the look. I'm not into limo tint or ghetto sheik.

What does ghettoness have to do with the % of your tint.........we have minority members on this forum and may take offense to the term ghetto. Many members grew up in a ghetto, like my self Edenwald Projects in the Bronx. We need to be mind full about the members on this forum.

Ghetto is ghetto. That's got nothing to do with minorities. It has to do with economics. I was born in the projects so you don't have to tell me about it. Been there; done that.

Ghetto is a recognized style around these parts. Some ppl like it; some don't. Just like other styles. That doesn't mean it's bad or good. It's a matter of taste.

You must be the Majority.........because this has been an issue before about the term ghetto and not just I but others had felt offended when that term was used. Also look up the word Ghetto in the dictionary:an area of a city lived in by a minority group, especially a run-down and densely populated area lived in by a group that experiences discrimination.......also ghetto is noun, how can it be a style. If you lived in the projects before as you said ( Been there; done that) why would you mock the word ghetto.

Kevin,

You're getting way off topic of this thread. If you want to continue to race-bait, start a new thread in Ramblings or PM me.

You'll find you're barking up the wrong tree.

Kevin, relax dude.... when people here use the word ghetto, no one has the condesending meaning or racist meaning that you are making it to be.

sounds at least a little condesending to me. some equated too dark tint (ie 5%) as something they don't like (negative conotation) and compared that to "getto." which can be interpreted as they don't like things "getto," or if things are getto they wouldn't like. i don't see anything racist behind the usage, but condesending? maybe. anyway, i just tinted my TL 20front/5back, and so far i think the back is too dark. i'll go either 20 all the way around or 35/20 next time.

Any car with a light colored interior will make the tint look lighter than it should. I have 20% all around but I have a black interior and its very very dark.
