The 3G is powered by a 270 hp (201 kW; later revised to 258 hp (192 kW), based on the new SAE measurement standard for horsepower and 233 ft·lbf (316 N·m) of torque), 3.2 L 24 valve SOHC VTEC V6 engine mated to either a 5-speed automatic with SportShift or 6-speed manual. So in 04 and 05 it was published as 270 and later revised to be 258 right in time for a 290 hp TL-S but the enigne and horse power is the same from 04 till 08 in non S type TL

If you are not going for a TL-S then I would recommend getting a 05-06TL with Navi. You will be able to find them with lower miles and price. It might be hard to find a 04 up for sale with low miles.

I would stay away from the 04TL's they had lots of growing pains, and every 5spd Auto had a harmonic vibration issue, some worse than others, 18mo later they finally mounted a huge block to the engine sub-frame to fix the problem, but for many it got better, but wasn't gone. they also had problems with the headliner dropping and the leather seats looking old prematurely (they changed the seat bottom in 2005 to fix this) along with many other issues in the 04's.

Trust me, I know first hand.

Like the last poster said, your better off with an 05 or 06 if you don't want a Type S.

I have two. Mine is an '04 manual and the wife's is an '05 automatic. Never had any of the problems you have described other than the seats doing what leather seats do.. show a little age in the form of wringing in a few locations (minor and of no concern to me).

My '04 has been near perfect (battery died 7 weeks after purchase due to the infamous temp display flatline - never occurred since). No 3rd gear shifting problems, no rattles, strange sounds, or vibrations.. just about perfect.

My '05 does not have any sort of harmonic vibration or looseness of any kind. Car is still tight and solid (both are).

My '04 was built in July '04 and bought two weeks later by me. It sat on the lot for two days before I bought it and had never been test driven. My '05 had just come in to the dealer and was being prepped for lot display when we bought it. The '05 was built and purchased in March '05.
