Question Decklip spoiler spring install without tool

When I first installed my spoiler I read that people didn't seem to need the spring. But after a few weeks I'm starting to get annoyed with the trunk. While it has no problems staying up, I have trouble loading it with my hands full. Before I could pop the button and the trunk would open enough to where I could just bump it a little and it would open the rest of the way. It doesn't do that anymore 'cause of the extra weight.

So this is my question...anyone install the spring without the spring tool? It is fairly easy? Major pain in the ass? I don't want to bother trying, removing the covers and everything if I have no chance of doing it without the spring tool.

I installed the spring using a tool borrowed from a friend.
I can tell you I cannot see any way of doing it without the use of the tool. You have to apply quite a bit of pressure to the spring in order to flex it enough to get it to go in.
I don't think you can get enough leverage in those tight quarters with a screwdriver or something similar.
My recommendation, is take it to the dealership and work out a deal with the service guys were all they have to do is pop the spring in, you undress the car and redress it.

The tool cost about $17. I think it's worth it.

i put the spring in today for my (small) deck lid spolier...the car comes with 2 existing springs but the spoler comes with only one out of the box...we installed it with the special tool (PITA) and to tell you the truth...the new spring doesnt make a difference!! I will get the other spring as well as the bigger spolier comes with 2 replacement springs.
