Cold Start
My TL is 7 weeks old and just turned over a 1,000 miles. My boyfriend seems to think that "something" is not right with the car. I think he's crazy, but that's beside the point since he is more informed on vehicles than I am.
When starting the car first thing in the morning (and it's been generally anywhere between the teens and 40* at 7am) he thinks that there is vibration. I drive it daily and never took notice to it so I told him he was crazy and again just looking for flaws in the car as he usually does.
Having said this....he has always owned GM cars. I have always owned Honda's. I've taken notice that with my Honda's on cold starts the manual transmissions were stiffer to shift and the engine ran a bit more rough. But after the car would warm up - it went away. So we are thinking that it could just be the way the VTEC was designed and that it is possibly just normal noise/vibration.
Has anyone experienced this or know anything about this so I can report back to him before he makes me go to the dealership and make a pain-in-the-ass out of myself?
Thanks for your thoughts!

i have had the same type of vibration that you are talking about. it even seems to bog a little. i didn't think it was a problem since the 3 other loaner cars i have had since buuying my car did the same thing. the vibration seems to go away after the car has warmed a little.

I just called my b/f and told him about your reply and he laughed and said, "See - I'm not crazy, huh?".
LOL. That makes me feel more comfortable knowing that it is probably with all the TL's. He just has different views than I do. He is always looking for a defect whereas I just drive the car and am happy as can be.
yeah, tell him its normal. i was a little concerned myself when i felt it. but i talked to a technician at acura. he told me it was normal. then i had a couple of loaners like i said and they had the same qualities. hope yur holiday went well. i cant wait for new years. gonna stand on broad street all day and watch the mummers parade, then go to 2 st and party all night. are you gonna be in philly at all any time soon ...
That sounds like a great day you have planned!
I'll be at home watching the parade on TV....
I don't believe we have plans any time soon to go, but I never know because it is sometimes spontaneous. Especially since our Eagles have flopped and won't be in the playoffs this year.
But, whenever I get caught up (from after xmas), I plan on going to King of Prussia shopping - God, I love that place!
Although, probably sometime in January we'll be heading to AC for the weekend, so we'll be passing through.
Don't know what we're doing for NYE either. Normally we come downtown (Harrisburg) and go to the bars/clubs, then watch the Strawberry drop at midnight at the Hilton (fireworks, etc.). But, it's just not worth risking a DUI on the way home; although, we could take a taxi (it's a thought...)? Who knows? Since I don't go out partying too much anymore, it's hard for me to stay up to mid-night! LMAO. It's a bitch getting older...

The TL uses fluid filled motor mounts, with some sort of electrical input, so it would be normal for things to be stiff till they warm up.
The ELEV stuff might make the engine run rougher than it normaly would in the cold, thats Ultra Low Emission Vehicle, and part of that is likely not dumping a lot of gas into the engine on a cold start.

Thanks BrettG and AW1 for the feedback as well.
My b/f and I actually got into a heated argument over this last night; I kept telling him that my car is NOT a GM, so stop trying to look for defects. LOL. But in all seriousness...every Honda that I've owned has treated me well and none of them have had visual or engine defects (thankfully, not even a recall). Whereas his GM....well....what hasn't gone wrong really? So, he must be inclined to think that every type of car must be like that?
I will definitely be going home with everyone's replies so he can truly acknowledge that there is nothing wrong and he can be at peace with himself and the car.
Thank you!!
