Clutch replacement!
hey I was wondering if 1400 for a full clutch replacement (clutch, barrings, flywhile, labor) from an acura dealership was a good price. mine went out at 46,xxx. didnt complain or anything kinda just walked in dropped it off and waited for the call on how much it was gonna be. not sure if this is the right area, so sorry mods if i misplaced it.
I actually asked about it, but since my parents are forking the bill I gotta go OEM. if i try any after market mods or parts, they'll kill me haha. they are trying to get me to not get as many tickets lol. Plus the dealership said that if I was to get an aftermarket clutch that I would void my current and extended warranty
LUK makes the OEM clutch. You can probably get all the parts directly from them for a lot less money that what the dealer wants.
The clutch is part 08-047 ($201 shipped on ebay):

The flywheel is part DMF062 ($310 shipped on ebay):

Acura's online price is $227/$487 and their list price is $300/659. Your dealer should be in the middle or sometimes even more than list. Get a real printed estimate to see how much of the price is service and how much the parts are. Then tell them you want to use the LUK parts direct from the manufacturer. Even if you have to bring them in...

It was more of a I am paying for school, and am really broke at the moment kinda situation. lol. and the only way to get it towed was to take it to a dealership. and there is only one in the entire state of indiana
If you're not the original owner, the previous owner(s) must have been pretty hard on the clutch. And if you are the original owner.... well unless there were some unknown problems afoot, you need to revisit your operational techniques because 46,000 miles from a clutch is WAY too little. You should expect at least three to five times that or more.

My clutch went out at 40,000 miles thanks to the previous owner, I had my car for 4 months before the clutch started to go... I think through Acura it was around $2200...Can't remember exactly, but $1400 sounds like a decent price considering the flywheel alone is around $600.

There is no "voiding your warranty". Specific claims can be denied if modifications you have done can be proven to have caused the damage you are trying to get them to fix. So if you go with a heavy aftermarket clutch and you snap an axle trying to launch your car, they aren't going to replace the axle under warranty. But if your radio stops working, they can't say "sorry your warranty is void due to that clutch, so we wont replace your radio under warranty".
A little update. I received a call from Acura for quality assurance kinda thing. Kinda rated the dealership poorly. went with a 4 since it was service with an empty smile. Got the car back wasnt even clean, or vacuumed. You think for that much I would at least get something. Complained that I didnt get a loaner car.(even though they had 4 sitting right next to me, prestigious customers only or some crap like that) had to pay my roommates to drive me almost 2 hours to get it, and then drive 2 hours back alone. Made a complaint about them telling me about how those parts would void my warranty. and about the LUK parts thing as well. all in all they refunded me 1000. (pushed heavily on how I had to get a loaner car from ace rental, had to pay more since i am under 25, soo far, and the fact that they didnt have to even replace my flywheel. So new flywheel and clutch assembly with labor from a dealer and a bunch of snacks and cokes that I took from their waiting lounge for around 700 winning!

. Because i never understood how it went out soo fast, literally came close to 6 thousand rpms maybe 3 times in that car.
Yeah a lot kinda led up to it. roommates borrowing my car that weren't the greatest at driving stick or learned on trucks where it didnt really matter about riding the clutch. And my sister "learning" to drive stick for a couple months while i was overseas

Never lend your car to someone regardless of their claimed need. It is not their property and they are never going to treat it as you would want them to. If you have a "beater" or "throw away" car, that's different. But not something in which you take pride and pleasure.
Question. Did the roommates or your sister offer to pay some or all of the costs you incurred? No, I didn't think so. So they are happy to use your car but be damned if they park too close to someone and get a door ding, or cause a "small" boo-boo on the bumper, or get food and sticky/greasy hands, on your steering wheel and shifter. They are not going to pay for their travesties... I virtually guarantee it.
Don't be so nice and learn to say "no". Your property will thank you.

Trust me, if someone told you "on trucks where it didnt really matter about riding the clutch", do not listen to them about anything when it comes to manual transmissions because they don't know what they're talking about. Barring something unforeseen or a poor design, if you know what you're doing you should expect well over 200,000 miles out of a clutch and even over 300,000 if you really know what you're doing.

I wish I had a picture of the curb rash she got on my rims..
Yeah i learned my lesson. well it wasn't my sisters fault my dad gave her the go ahead. so it kinda made sense why they were soooo willing to pay for the service. I just remember coming back home and flipping out, even if someone asked to sit in my car. now she is in special garage I even went as far as to have my garage door code and lock changed
