Haha, i've always been getting really bad gas mileage. I resetted my MID after i filled up and was driving on the highway and checked my MID. After some city driving the MPG went back down to 20=(. At least i'm improving from 18 and 19 mpg.

But before I got the TL, I also testdrove the Accord Hybrid. I liked it better then the regular gasoline one. More hp and could not tell when it switched other then the indicator on the gauge panel.

On my current tank I was as high as 34 after 100 miles... now at 411 miles, 11 plus hours and it dropped to 29

But, I have been short shifting to get that high for once.. I usually get 24.
I had 33 mpg at an average 58 mph recently after I filled up with gas and immediately got on the highway for about 20 miles. But as you note, it quickly dropped once I exited onto the streets.
In February I went up to Seven Springs in Pennsylvania and filled up on the way there, probably around the halfway point. It's about 200 miles each way, so in the ensuing 300 miles of driving, virtually all on the highway, I got 27 mpg at an average of about 63 mph. The average speed would have been higher but for the drive from the Pennsylvania Turnpike to the ski resort.....oh, and Breezewood, of course.
I normally get 21 to 22 mpg driving in DC-area traffic.
As for a TL hybrid, well, Virginia currently lets people with hybrids get a special license plate that allows you to drive solo in the HOV lanes, so that's a pretty good argument for a hybrid! (They're talking about repealing the ban as window-dressing to get the hardcore carpool crowd to stop whining about "congestion.")

I remember when they tried the HOV lanes in NJ on like 80, 287 etc. It was torture to sit in traffic and see that empty lane calling for you to come on over...many did, many tickets...they finally made it a regular lane.
