Check Engine Light just came on!

My check engine light just came on at 23k. It's not the gas cap, so I'm taking it to the dealer for warranty service (plus rattles and brembo squeal). Anybody else have light come on on their 2004 TL and get serviced for emissions? thanks

I did. It's ON around 1.8k in Oct. 03, and got fixed in Jan. 04. It's rare that the new model (except the early build ones) has the issue like this. But, I believe Acura dealers are fully aware of this issue for now. They should be able to help you.

There are a few MIL issues in these days, you could check these threads, too.

Took to Dealership

Took it to Nalley yesterday. They diagnosed it as a faulty knock sensor. They had to inspect it, and said it could be defect, or could be "rodent" damage
They gave be a brand new RL with 30 miles as a loaner, and sent me on my way while they investigated.
I got the call later yesterday that, yes, RODENTS had caused the damage (now I'm out the $300 )
Anyway, I wouldn't pay 15-20k more for the RL. It rides nicely, but isn't all that peppy (maybe if it had 6sp MT!)

I know there's a whole mice thread, but holy crap... Un freakin believable.... Do you (most people) with the "mouse issue" park outside or within a garage???

Rodent eats TL wiring under intake manifold

My 2005 Acura TL got the rodent damage under the intake manifold. The dealer says they fix about two of these per month. Acura even came up with replacement wiring that contains pesticide to discourage the critters. Fix cost is estimated at around $450, but could be more. The knock sensor is disabled and the engine could be damaged if using gas with less than recommended octane?

If this is so common, why doesn't Acura have a recall to put in a screen or something? I wonder if they check this area when the car comes off the boat as they assume that it happened after the customer gets the car. It is more likely that rats on the boat would get in there, as opposed to when it is driven daily and stored inside a heated garage.

Check engine light came on again today. I took it in the first time and waited for a hour, I told the service advisor, that it must of been something with the fuel injectors because I was getting like 12 miles to the gallon on the city streets and like 18 MPG on the highway. Well I was correct, to make a long story short they said they have fixed the problem and that everything was ok. My advisor told me that I should never see the light again but if I do they will go to step two, and look deeper into it again. Well they should of did that the first time, because the light is back on. I made a appointment for the 30th of the month because I refuse to wait 2 hours for my car.
The saddest part of all was that when it first happend the sales advisor told me to come in on a saturday early in the morning. I got their at 7:30am, only to hear sorry we only have 3 tech guys instead of 4 can you come back Monday. DAMN ACURA SERVICE.

My goodness, what is it with the TL??

If it's not ROUSs (Princess Bride fans will know what that stands for) gnawing away at its innards, then it's kamikaze poop-machines bombing it from the air!

I've heard of animal attraction, but this is getting ridiculous!!!!

Umm...injector issues with Honda V6 engines are a lot more common than you think...

Ever wonder why people on Bobistheoilguy always complain about fuel dilution and/or low flashpoint with their oil analysis results?

I had a lot of cars at my shop, which were almost brand new, but had Check Engine Light on. Before diagnostics I assumed always that it was Evaporation System Malfunction, because of the pressure drop in the fuel tank (puting gasoline with engine on, not tightly closed gas cap, damaged evaporation canister). After diagnostic tool (MODIS) gave me "No signal from ... sensor", "... sensor malfunction" or "No voltage detected from ... sensor", I realised that the wires were cut. Most common once attacked by rodents are Mass airflow wires and Oxygen sensors (exhaust apparantly keeps them warm). Funny, yet true stories.

O2 Sensor

Mine just went in for a bad O2 sensor. No light, but failed emissions inspection because of it. Bad news is closest dealer is an hour and a 1/2 away....I hope this is the one and only trip.
