Unhappy Check Engine Light? Anyone Else

Through Jan and Feb I was getting a check engine light every now and again. I'd be on the highway mostly, and under moderate to hard acceleration (passing and so on) The Check Engine Light would come on (flashing) for about 20-30 seconds and then go away. I took it to the dealer, and of course they found nothing.

Then in late Feb., it came on solid. I checked the gas cap, I restarted after letting it sit, and nothing turned it off. So I took it back in, the dealer found nothing again, and just reset the light.

It's been good since then, but yesterday, under hard throttle, it came on (flashing) for about 25 seconds again.

Anyone else seeing this anamoly?

My check engine light came on, and stayed on. It came on at idle, not under acceleration. This is the text of what they did to fix it:

TECH REPLACED IMC VALVE (ROTARY AIR VALVE). PARTS: (1) 17150-RCA-A01, (1) 17153-RCA-A01

There are other posts about the acceleration problem being software related. My service dept didn't know what was happening until they hooked it up to a computer to see "what codes it's throwing off".

Good luck.

Did you check your gas cap? When it's not sealed properly, it can cause the check engine light to come on.

I used to live in Franklin (@Forrest Crossing). Have you taken your TL on route 96 to Murfreesboro? You've got a lot of fun places to do some "spirited driving" around there.

Yes I have the same experience. Mine happens at 4500RPM on Sportshift (2nd gear). I think it's the 4500RPM that triggered it not Sportshift or 2nd gear. It was just easier to achieve 4500RPM when you are 2nd gear.

Check my thread at http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...highlight=4500

I just got it back from service yesterday. So far the check engine light has not come on after I attempted to replicate it. They replaced the "Crank Shaft Sensor".

The check engine light is a pain in the ass! It monitors a million things many of them not crucial to engine funtion but rather air reg material. Unfortunately the only way to find out what ails it is to take it to the dealer. They are always easy fixes since a specific code will always show up in the diagnostic computer.

Why suddenly everyone has this MIL issue in last five days?

This is another one. Click Here

Dealers should be able to check and fix it since this has been some very early issue for the early-built 04TLs.

Unfortunately its not a TL issue its an OBD II issue. Essentially all car makers and models have check engine light issues. Sometimes there is something wrong, some times a sensor, sometimes the gas cap, sometimes nothing! Its like the airbag stickers on our sun visors, the seat belt chime and the stupid disclaimer on the navi system. Just another government/lawyer induced mechanical stupidity to irritate the sh*t out off everyone else!

Well, I stated in my post (some must have missed it or not read all of it) That the gas cap was checked. As a matter of fact, over and over. I also tried different gas.

It looks like I'll just have to wait and see if it goes solid again, and take it back to the dealer, and insist they do something about it.

UPDATE!

took my TL into the dealer and this is what they came back with:

The ECU and several sensors were replaced about 3 weeks ago. After running diagnostics, the computer is recommending to replace a sensor that was just replaced 3 weeks ago. My dealer called Acura Factory and worked with them. They gave Acura specific mesaurements, details, etc about the car. Acura factory said they were well aware of this check engine light issue and are currently working on a fix with Acura engineers. They said absolutely nothing is wrong with the car and it is safe to drive. They said it is just a bug in the software/firmware etc and they will contact me when a fix is avail. They cleared the MIL light and said there is a good chance it will keep coming on and off intermittently and to just ignore it. I asked them to check the Crankshaft Position Sensor, O2 sensors, software updates, etc and they said all of that stiff checked out fine.

Well, time to drop that Injen CAI in this weekend and take the headlights out to send to Mr .
