Carbon Fiber Body Panels for TL 3rd Gen
Carbon Fiber Body Panels for TL 3rd Gen
First off just want to say been using this site since I bought my first TL and the amount of info on hear is amazing its cool to see a site with so many Acura enthusiasts. I figured its time for me to start actually posting and talking to people on here.
So My big question is has anyone actually considered or done carbon fiber body panels to there car. I've seen aftermarket hoods and trunks but I haven't really seen fenders or doors.
Ive seen a couple threads of people gutting their cars and even replacing the glass with lexan. but no composite parts.
I have been considering pulling molds off my 08 TLS 6 Mt and making some new parts would anyone else be interested in getting that done to their car?
would be pricey I know but I love my car and It would be awesome to see a carbon fiber TL.
Ive also considered doing some basic engine parts like valve covers maybe even a intake manifold if I could borrow some of the right equipment to cure the parts with.
And just in case people think I'm crazy I come from a background of aviation, I have been repairing and making composite parts for a couple of years, fiber glass, carbon & Kevlar. So I know all of this is pretty easy to do.

Please make the now discontinued cf center dash kit from Acura!! 2 pieces, one over the cup holder and the other over the heated seat buttons, as close of a match to the OEM fake cf so it's seamless.
I could probably easily make those pieces if you are interested.
in response to hi speed, so no one has even attempted to make any panels?? that makes me sad. I guess I will be the first one to do it.

I have a bunch of CF interior parts but no panels. There use to be a member on here jptl04 that did a couple of custom CF parts for me. If you have the skills to make such parts then I would be interested to hear more from you and to see some of your work.
Keep me posted

I don't think so. CF hoods, interior pieces, and engine covers, but no doors or trunks or front fenders that I've heard of. I seen some stuff for my IS300, $2500 per door $11-1200 for the trunk, but that's pretty hard core for most here. That said, I would love to see some cool stuff made, the BMW CF roofs are pretty awesome. Throw some Kevlar in there and make some bullet proof doors might be fun.

I saw a company make an entire set up for a supra, quarter panels door skins, everthing. God only knows how much that costs. kind of what has inspired me for the TL's.
I think ill start with my fenders and pull a mold and make the part should be relatively simple to do. see how it comes out and what you guys think.
as far as engine parts itself would be way more of a challenge mostly do to the complicated part making process and insuring that the parts would hold up to the heat and pressure of the engine that will be some time down the road. Ill also try to post some pictures of a few interior parts ill make as that will be very simple to do.
also to save money for things like interior if show is all people want I could do mostly fiber glass parts and do the finishing layer in a lighter grade carbon. so all people would see would look like a pure carbon fiber piece but underneath would be just fiber glass. would save a few bucks.

One reason why there are no carbon panels is because our stock body is already pretty light compared to cars that do have it...
Also cause most of the people on this forum buy readily-available parts. With the market for the TL being small there isn't really a reason for manufacturers to produce parts for us like that.
Would love to see what you come up with though. I'm sure once it's been said and done and the price slowly gets a little cheaper than people will hop on board.

Very interested. I'm also sure many here on Azine would be as well. Must match OEM cf as close as possible so it doesn't look out of place. The right thickness will be key as well, for it to blend in. The trick is for it to look continuous with the rest of the OEM stuff. IIRC acura was charging around $30-$40 per kit. Only 2 pieces, one over the heated seat buttons and other over the cup holder. The cup holder piece I think was only the piece that goes around it, nothing that goes over the sliding door that covers the cup holders. Someone correct me if wrong. Maybe someone has a pic of what it looks like? Please post it. Thx.
