Are you going to have to remove the black underbody plate for the hitch to be installed? I guess thats a premature question though..please keep us (at least me) updated. Thanks in advance.

I believe the owner's manual says "no". You may want to check it out.

Looks good. Anybody heard of these guys or tried on of these hitches? Also I'm still interested on any word about u-haul hitches actually working.

Thanks!

Did this hitch issue ever get solved?

Introduction: Long time lurker, first time writer. I am waiting to hear back from the dealer whether or not he will be able to get the car I want or just grab one off the lot. Okay, enough about me - back to the hitches.

I recently attended a bicycle rally and noticed a 3g TL w/ a bike rack mounted to a 1.25" receiver hitch. The owner said it was a U-Haul hitch. Only problem he had getting it installed was that they had to do some minor (others might think major) cutting on his A-Spec bodywork. I'm considering going this route as well.

2nd Gen could, the manual talks about proper loading and towing capacity. I don't know about 3rd Gen. Check your manual

i would imagine that some work would need to be done to the rear of the car because of the way the hitch would need to be mounted. on a good number of sedans you need to trip away parts of the bumper to get the receiver to hang down.

I got the u-haul hitch.
It was so ugly. It does not fit well at all. I mounts to the towing hook and then requires two holes drilled into the spare tire area. Then the plastic gas tank cover has to be discarded or cut up somehow. Also the mounts to not fit flush with the compartment. It needs to be bend out of shape. I will not install this. Apparently, this hitch fits Accord and 2 gen Tl, they try to force it onto new TL. Anyway, I will return it tommorrow.

MrBadGUy,

Are you going to try one of the hitches from hitch-web.com?

Hi all,

Here is a link to a couple Draw-Tite hitches for the TL: http://search.cartserver.com/search/....2+TL&GO=GO%21. One tows up to 2,000 lbs and the other up to 2,500. I don't have any personal experience with them though, and I did notice that they are for "1999-2004". I wonder if they meant 1999-2003?

Does anyone have any first hand experience with premature engine/trans/clutch failure as a result of towing with their 3G TL? I've towed for years with my '99 Maxima 5 speed and had no problems. Original engine, trans, and even clutch at 212,000 miles. I just bought a '07 TL-S 6mt and assume that an Acura should be as durable as my old Nissan. I don't buy the old "owners manual says don't" argument. They have all sorts of lawyer warnings in there.
