A/c

I have read of people's A/Cs smelling nasty with lots of mileage but mine doesn't smell too great and I only have 500 miles. Not mold...just doesn't smell too great...

not a big deal...i'm just wondering

i dont think it has anything to do with the mileage, perse.. i thought it had to do with hard acceleration... did you notice this right after a hard acceleration?

Yes. It's called a dust and pollen filter and is located behind the glove box. Under normal conditions it probably won't require replacement until 20,000 miles or more. When the number "2" shows up on the maintenance minder, it is time to change it.

I think this happens with all cars. I have tried changing filters and over time, it just happens to all cars.

But if it not the filter, then what can it be?

I have never accelerated hard yet, hopefully going for a long drive and hitting 600 by Saturday. I went for a 60 mile drive last night just to add mileage and relax

Mine's fine.

Oh thing might be the source of your concern. When you use the AUTO setting the A/C comes on in recirculate mode until the interior temperature is lowered to a range acceptable to the system based upon your settings, then it reverts to outside air. In reciculate mode, there is going to be a build up of humity and increased moisture in the A coil housing. When it reverts to outside air, you will notice a somewhat damp smell for a few minutes until the A coil housing has a chance to dry out a bit. This is perfectly normal.

A hint. A mile or so before you get to where you're going, shut off the A/C and bump the fan up on a high setting to help dry out the housing and the A coil. This will virtually eliminate that nasty, moldy odor that's historically common with Hondas.
